This is the opportunity for members of the public to address the Commission regarding
items not otherwise on the agenda. The Ralph M. Brown Act prohibits the Commission
from acting on any matter that is not on the agenda. The Chairperson may limit speakers
to three minutes each.

MEMORANDUM

Re: Monthly Report
Parks Division
1) Tree planting is ongoing. 81 trees will be planted.
2) The Parks Division responded to 107 emergency tree calls during the recent storms.
Considerable cleanup was required in the aftermath.
3) A contractor has been selected to upgrade the restrooms at Ray Park and Cuernavaca Park.
The contract will be presented to Council for approval on December 2nd. Anticipated
completion date is Spring 2003.
4) Most softball, baseball, soccer leagues have completed their seasons. The fields will be
overseeded after Thanksgiving.
5) Contract tree pruning is continuing on Easton Drive.
Recreation Division
1) Teens: City Council approved the lease for the Teen Center. Youth in Government Day was
conducted, with projects being formed and given to the YAC. High School Concert was held
and attended by 200. Open Gym was attended by 75 middle school teens.
2) Seniors: 1 st Adult/Senior Bridge Tournament 48 participants.
3) Adult Sports: Fall 40+ men's softball league full with 4 teams.
4) Preschool: Successful field trip to the pumpkin patch and a wonderful Halloween parade.
5) Aquatics: Completed a comprehensive Management Report to assess current TDS issue at
the pool. User Group meeting was held. Plans were finalized for addressing water quality
and many of the structural issues that exist at the pool.
6) Adult Classes: Knitting, evening ceramics, oil and watercolor painting classes are full for
the 2nd session with over 125 students enrolled. Home loans, home buying, feng shui,
adult/teen makeup and gardening combined for a total of 68 enrollments.
7) Scholarship Fund: Kincaids Restaurant offered a culinary class in October that was full with
15 students. All the proceeds (approx. $400) was donated to the youth scholarship fund.

Position is held from September to June
The youth commissioners advise the Parks and Recreation Commission on
matters relating to the youth and teen population within the City of Burlingame.
This may include programs relating to safety, recreation, drug awareness, special
interests, sports, community involvement, socialization, and environmental
concerns. The Parks and Recreation Commission meets the 3rd Thursday of
every month at City Hall at 7:00 p.m. You must be available to attend these
meetings.
