HomeMy WebLinkAboutMin - PR - 2010.09.16MEETING MINUTES Regular Meeting of the Burlingame Parks & Recreation Commission Thursday, September 16, 2010 The regular meeting of the Burlingame Parks & Recreation Commission was called to order by Chairperson Castner-Paine at 7:05 pm at Burlingame City Hall, 501 Primrose Road, Burlingame. ROLL CALL Commissioners Present: Shanus Commissioners Absent: Staff Present: Others Present: PUBLIC COMMENTS Castner-Paine (left at 7:20 pm), Carlton, Eaton, Hesselgren, Fisher, La Mariana Director Skeels; Recreation Supervisor Barry; Administrative Secretary Helley Leslie McQuaide — 1439 Montero Ave.; Stuart Zussman — 1344 Bernal Ave.; Hank Sauer — 840 Fairfield Rd.; Frank Frost — 1005 Burlingame Ave.; Bennet Weintraub — 3012 Hillside Dr.; Lori & Arius Rakstins — 481 Bloomfield Rd. Leslie McQuade spoke to the Commission on the idea of a community garden. Two locations in Burlingame have been identified as usable space for a garden: an area at Bayside Park and an area at Murray Field. Leslie spoke donations and sponsors funding the maintenance of the garden. A group of volunteers would fund, manage and maintain the garden so as to not impact City staff or incur cost to the City funds. Leslie spoke of the Murray Field location being ideal due to growing conditions, water availability, restrooms, food and the various activities available for all members of a family Frank Frost lives across the street from the Washington Park tennis courts. He reported that there have been teenagers playing tennis until one am at least two nights a week for several weeks now. He has a daughter in high school and he said that the noise of the kids and the noise the timer has been keeping her awake during the week. Mr. Frost is requesting the Commission consider imposing a limitation on the hours of light use during the school week/year. MINUTES The Minutes of the August 19, 2010 regular meeting were approved as submitted. OLD BUSINESS A. Field User Policy Review — Supervisor Barry recapped the changes that the Field Users group discussed at their September 9th meeting. The first four items were approved. After discussion on the following items, it was concluded that the policy would be used through a season to see how all the components work. The items to be looked at next year to assess how they affect the usability of the policy and the users are: 1) To develop 1/12 hour time blocks for all fields for user groups to pick when they request field space. 2) Monitor user groups original field request to actual field use for the season Commission concluded that Barry would have autonomy to monitor the policy and it's components over the next year and report back to commission on any needed changes at that time. Correspondence - None Commissioner Reports Commissioner Hesselgren extended thanks to Supervisor Barry for all his work with the many community groups on the draft policy for Field use. Commissioner Shanus reported that BYBA will be working on a "facelift" for the small ball field dugout at Washington Park. The work will begin around October 25. NEXT MEETING The next meeting of the Parks & Recreation Commission is scheduled to be held on Thursday, October 21, 2010 at 7:00 p.m. at Burlingame City Hall.
