HomeMy WebLinkAboutMin - PR - 2010.02.18MEETING MINUTES Regular Meeting of the Burlingame Parks & Recreation Commission Thursday, February 18, 2010 The regular meeting of the Burlingame Parks & Recreation Commission was called to order by Commissioner Castner-Paine at 7:00 pm at Burlingame City Hall, 501 Primrose Road, Burlingame. ROLL CALL Commissioners Present: Castner-Paine, Carlton (arrived @ 7:05pm), Fisher, La Mariana, Eaton, Hesselgren, Shanus Commissioners Absent: None Staff Present: Recreation Superintendant Mutto; Administrative Secretary Joleen Helley Others Present: None MINUTES The Minutes of the January 21, 2010 regular meeting were approved as submitted. OLD BUSINESS NONE NEW BUSINESS A. Determine Alternate March Meeting Date — Due to the majority of Commission members attending the Burlingame High School Open House, which is scheduled the same evening as the March Commission meeting, Commission is determining a alternate dates for the March meeting. After a short discussion, Hesselgren moved that Commission set the new meeting date as Thursday, March 25. Seconded La Mariana. Motion carried 7-0 B. Set Tentative Date for Joint Meeting with Youth Advisory Committee — A tentative date for a joint meeting with Youth Advisory Committee is set for April 14, 2010 at 7:00 pm at City Hall. REPORTS/HANDOUTS Staff Reports 1. Monthly Report 2. Correspondence —None 3. Village Park Picnic Area — Mutto reported that staff has revised the picnic permit form to include Village Park. Staff has ordered a sign board which will be installed to display the permits. 4. Inflatable Jump House Update — Mutto reported staff has created a form for Inflatable permits at Washington Park. Parks & Recreation Commission Minutes February 18, 2010 — Page 2 5. Bayside #1 Infield Maintenance Update — The current plan for Bayside #1 is minimal at this time. The field plays and drains well. It is one of the first fields playable after the winter months. The field will be prepped as it is each year by nail dragging it to break up the granite, add new material and drag it until it is as level as possible. The outfield edge will also be cleaned up as usual. No problems are expected with this field and with the new fencing, the outfield will be re -seeded, the grandstands and restrooms have recently been painted. The field should be in great shape this spring. The Bocce courts are still in the works. The Lions Club is looking at this as a possible project for them. They may be able to supply all the necessary material and Parks will construct it. 6. City/Burlingame School District Joint Use Agreement Update— Mutto reported the staff is working on a matrix of field fees. Notice will be given to the user groups prior to implementation of any fees. 7. Burlingame Golf Center Update — Mutto reported the current contract is through 2013 and pays the City $100,000 annually. Commissioner Reports 1. Commissioner Hesselgren asked staff if motorized scooters were allowed in Washington Park as she has seen them zipping through the park at various times. Staff confirmed that motorized scooters are not allowed in the park. Hesselgren also inquired as to why sod has been planted at the large picnic area in Washington Park. Staff reported that the Parks Supervisor opted for sod because it keeps down on the dust and makes for a more pleasurable environment for the community. 2. Commissioner Shanus asked staff how Art in the Park was coming along. Staff reported that Pacific Fine Arts would be handling the event this year and that all was on track for the event on June 12-13, 2010. 3. Commissioner Castner-Paine reported on the "Drive Less Challenge" that is taking place all over the Bay Area from April 22 to May 6, 2010. Interested individuals are encouraged to log onto http:Hdrivelesschallen eg com/ and participate in the challenge. NEXT MEETING The next meeting of the Parks & Recreation Commission is scheduled to be held on Thursday, March 25, 2010 at 7:00 p.m. at Burlingame City Hall.
