HomeMy WebLinkAboutMin - PR - 2011.07.21MEETING MINUTES Regular Meeting of the Burlingame Parks & Recreation Commission Thursday, July 21, 2011 The regular meeting of the Burlingame Parks & Recreation Commission was called to order by Chair Hesselgren at 7:04 pm at Burlingame City Hall, 501 Primrose Road, Burlingame. ROLL CALL Commissioners Present: Hesselgren, Shanus, Baum, Griffith, Castner-Paine Commissioners Absent: Eaton, Bulotti Staff Present: Director Skeels; Office Assistant II Borba Others Present: Doug Long, San Carlos Parks & Recreation Director, San Carlos Parks & Recreation Foundation Nicole Johnson, Burlingame Community for Education PUBLIC COMMENTS There were no public comments MINUTES Commission moved approval of minutes to the August meeting. OLD BUSINESS A. Foundation Formation — Commission welcomed Doug Long, Director San Carlos Parks & Recreation, San Carlos Parks & Recreation Foundation. Director Long gave an informative power point presentation on the process of setting up a foundation. He went over the aspects of Fundraising; Vision, Finance, Events, Structure, Branding and Promotion. Nicole Johnson, Burlingame Community for Education (BCE) was able to give the commission insight into Fundraising for the Burlingame Elementary schools. NEW BUSINESS A. Status of August Meeting — Commission agreed to hold their August meeting. REPORTS/HANDOUTS Staff Reports 1. Monthly Report — Distributed and revised 2. Bayside Fields entry sign Update — Skeels reported the project is moving forward. 3. Burlingame Aquatics Club Transition — Skeels gave an update that BAC has hired a new program coordinator and that the transition period has begun. 4. Community Garden Status — Skeels is working with BGC to finalize a site. Shanus offered a suggestion at Bayside Park behind diamond 2 in the right field. 5. Dogs Off Lease City Council Report — Moved to August 15th, 2011 meeting. 6. 2011 Budget — The Budget was adopted with no significant changes. Included are capital dollars for park projects. 7. Correspondence — There was no correspondence. Commissioner Reports Commissioner Griffith expressed his interest in continuing the conversation about the Parks and Recreation Foundation at the August meeting. Next Meeting The next meeting of the Parks & Recreation Commission is scheduled to be held on Thursday, August 18, 2011 at 7:00 p.m. at Burlingame City Hall.
