Regular Meeting of the Burlingame Parks & Recreation Commission
Thursday, August 15, 2013
The regular meeting of the Burlingame Parks & Recreation Commission was called to order by Chair
Baum at 7:02 pm at the Burlingame Recreation Center, 850 Burlingame Ave., Burlingame.
1. ROLL CALL
Commissioners Present: Baum, Eaton, Lau, Griffith, Hesselgren, Martin
Commissioners Absent: Bullotti
Staff Present: Director Glomstad, Recreation Coordinator Buchanan, Recreation
Program Coordinator Rath and Administrative Secretary Helley

2. MINUTES
The Minutes of the June 20, 2013 regular meeting were approved.
3. PUBLIC COMMENTS
None
4. OLD BUSINESS
a. Refund Policy — Revised policy approved with minor changes to verbiage. Minor change of
adding a pronoun to second sentence to clarify intent. Policy to take affect with the Winter Recreation
Brochure release in January of 2014.
MOTION by Hesselgren (seconded by Baum): Commission approves new Parks & Recreation
Department program refund policy as amended. MOTION PASSED 6-0-1.
b. Tennis Court Lessons — Coordinator Buchanan recapped the recommendation of staff to
allow for tennis instructors to obtain a permit from the Parks & Recreation Department to conduct
private tennis lessons on City courts. Buchanan has updated the application for permits and will be
updating the current signage at the courts to clearly reflect the City's rules regarding the usage of the
courts for private lessons. Staff report attached.
5. NEW BUSINESS
a. Pet Parade 2013 — Glomstad reported Parks & Recreation is helping with the Pet Parade this
year. The parade will be held on Saturday, September 281h at 10 am. Children from Village Park
Preschool will be leading the parade and there will be service dogs, little ponies and teacup Yorkies.
There will be a balloon artist and art project tables for the kids. The parade is looking for a judge.
Hesselgren volunteered to be a judge.
b. Dog Exercise Park Improvements — Glomstad updated the commission on the progress of
the Dog Park Task Force and the community meeting. Staff report attached.
c. Commissioner Application Process — The proposed application deadline for the 3 seats on
the Commission is Oct 18th. It will be confirmed at the Aug 19th Council meeting.
d. Single A Minor League Baseball Team Proposal — Glomstad reported the department has
been approached by a representative of a Minor League organization that would like to use Washington
Park as their home field. Glomstad referred them to contact YBA so they can discuss the possibility of
scheduling and work out a mutually beneficial schedule prior to opening discussion with the City.

7. Adiournment —
The next meeting of the Parks & Recreation Commission is scheduled to be held on Thursday,
September 19, 2013 at 7:00 p.m. at Burlingame Recreation Center.
There being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 7:58 pm.
