CALL TO ORDER 2. ROLL CALL 3. MINUTES a. December Minutes - Draft Attachments: BBC December Minutes 4. CORRESPONDENCE 5. FROM THE FLOOR Speakers may address the Commission concerning any matter over which the Commission has jurisdiction or of which it may take cognizance that is not on the agenda. Additional public comments on agenda action items will be heard when the Commission takes up those items. The Ralph M. Brown Act (the State local agency open meeting law) prohibits the Commission from acting on any matter that is not on the agenda. Speakers are asked to fill out a "request to speak" card located on the table by the door and hand it to staff, although provision of name, address or other identifying information is optional. Speakers are limited to three minutes each, although the Commission may adjust the time limit in light of the number of anticipated speakers. 6. OLD BUSINESS a. City of Burlingame Page 1 Printed on 6/7/2019 BURLINGAME BEAUTIFICATION COMMISSION Draft Minutes December 6, 2018 The regularly scheduled meeting of the Beautification Commission was called to order at 6:30 pm by Commission Chair Hinkle. ROLL CALL Present: Commissioners Hinckle, Hunt, Dinuri, Kirchner and Kearney Absent: None Staff: Parks Superintendent/City Arborist Disco and Recording Secretary Borba Others: None MINUTES Commissioner Hunt made a motion to approve the November 1, 2018 minutes as read. The motion was seconded by Commissioner Dinuri and unanimously approved. CORRESPONDENCE None PUBLIC COMMENT None OLD BUSINESS 1. Business Landscape Award — Decal Presented to the Business Landscape Winner Secretary Borba presented a proof of the decal to award to the BLA winners on glossy sticker photo paper. The Commissioners discuss the decal and agreed on the glossy photo paper. Commissioner Hinckle thanked Commissioner Kirchner for the design of the decal. Chair Dinuri will prepare a time line for the 2019 Award. 2. Discussion of Commissioners Nomination Area for the Residential Sustainable Landscape Award City Arborist Disco handed out a map of the City to the Commissioners that were broken into 5 areas. The Commissioners each choose an area to look at for potential nominees for the RSLA. Area 1 — Commissioner Kirchner, Area 2 — Commissioner Dinuri, Area 3 - Commissioner Hinckle, Area 4 — Commissioner Kearney, and Area 5 — Commissioner Hunt. The Commissioners agreed to limit their nominations to two each. Commissioner Hinckle suggested when City Arborist Disco is out in the City inspecting trees to note addresses of possible nominations. City Arborist Disco agreed to report any potential nominees. Chair Dinuri will prepare a time line for the 2019 Award. NEW BUSINESS 1. Commissioner Rotation Commission Chair Hinkle passed the gavel to Commissioner Kirchner who will serve as Chair of the Beautification Commission for the next year. Commissioner Kirchner thanked Commissioner Hinckle for a great job and he stated that he learned a lot from her and enjoy her questions. Commissioner Kearney will serve Vice Chair of the Commission. 2. Tree Lighting — December 7, 2018 Commissioners Hunt, Hinckle and Dinuri will be attending. 3. Cancellation of January 3, 2019 Meeting Commissioner Hinkle moved to cancel the January 3, 2019 Beautification Commission Meeting and Commissioner Kearney seconded the motion and unanimously approved. REPORTS 1. Parks Superintendent/City Arborist City Arborist Disco stated Arbor Day will be on Thursday, March 7, 2019, the location is still to be determined. It will be the 40"' year of the `Tree City USA' distinction. 2. Commissioner Hunt None 3. Commissioner Hinckle Commissioner Hinckle stated the lights on the trees on Broadway are beautiful. City Arborist Disco stated that the BBID strung the lights. 4. Commissioner Kirchner Commissioner Kirchner inquired about the tree vandalism in Mills Canyon. Arborist Disco responded that a few Acacia trees in Mills Canyon were vandalized. Signs have been posted in the Canyon that it is unlawful to harm any public tree. Commissioner Kirchner also stated that Mayor Brownrigg brought up public art and making the Beautification Commission 7 members during the interview process. 5. Commissioner Kearney None 6. Commissioner Dinuri None The next Beautification Commission meeting is January 3, 2019. There being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 7:15 pm.
