HomeMy WebLinkAboutReso - CC - 012-1964RESOLUTION NO. 12 - 64 RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BURLINGAME, CALIFORNIA, EXTENDING AN INVITATION TO THE CITY OF CUERNAVACA, MEXICO, TO BECOME A. SISTER CITY IN THE PEOPLE -TO -PEOPLE PROGRAM AND IN`JITING THE PEOPLE OF CUERNAVACA TO PARTICIPATE IN SAID PROGRAM. WHEREAS, the "People -to -People Program" was established at the White House in 1956 by the President and which former President John F. Kennedy of the United States, was head as Honorary Chairman and General Dwight D. Eisenhower as Chairman of the Board of Trustees to establish greater friendship and understanding between the peoples of the United States and other nations through the medium of direct personal contact, and WHEREAS, to implement this program, Burlingame, California, and other cities in the United States have been requested through the American_ Municipal Association to affiliate with a city abroad of similar characteristics and mutual interests, and WHEREAS, Burlingame, California, through its Council does recognize and endorse this program with the hope that it will lead to a lasting friendship between the people of Burlingame and Cuernavaca, Mexico. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council as follows: Section 1. That this Council on behalf of the people of Burlingame, California, hereby extends an invitation to the Government and people of the City of Cuernavaca, to participate with Burlingame as its Sister City in the "People -to -People Program" for the purpose of creating good will and understanding between the people al our two great nations. Section 2. The Mayor or other authorized representative is hereby authorized to act as official representative of Burlingame to carry out this program. Section 3. That copies of this resolution are to be sent to the Mayor and Council of the City of Cuernavaca. the American Municipal Association, the United States Department of State and the Lobassy of ;"Mexico. I I, Herbert K. White, City Clerk of the City of Burlingame, do hereby certify that the foregoing resolution was introduced at a regular meeting of the City Council held on the 20th day of January 1964, and adopted thereafter by the following vote: AYES: COUNCILMEN: Crosby-Diede rich sen-George-John son -Mart in.
