BURLINGAME BEAUTIFICATION COMMISSION
April 4, 2013
The regularly scheduled meeting of the Beautification Commission was called to order at 6:30 pm by
Commissioner Hinckle.
ROLL CALL
Present: Commissioners Hunt, Hinckle and McQuaide
Absent: Chairperson Dittman and Commissioner Kirchner
Staff: Parks Supervisor/City Arborist Disco and Parks & Recreation Secretary, Borba.
MINUTES - Minutes of the March 7th, 2013 meeting were approved as submitted.
CORRESPONDENCE
None
PUBLIC COMMENT
Resident Ann Wallach who lives on Balboa wanted to know how one goes about petitioning City Council to
request a tree become a Heritage Tree. Arborist Disco explained that the term Heritage Tree is no longer used, but
any tree over 48" in circumference measured 54" from the ground is now protected under the Urban Reforestation
and Tree Protection Ordinance 11.06.020.
OLD BUSINESS
1. Business Incentives for Landscape Improvements
Commissioner McQuaide reported Artist Dale Perkins has agreed to paint the watercolor again this year
for the 2013 Business Landscape Award winner.

1. Business Incentives for Landscape Improvements
Commissioner Kirchner prepared a flyer of past Landscape Award winners and submitted it to Secretary
Borba which was distributed to the Commissioners along with 25 copies of the 2013 Business Landscape
Award Nomination forms. Commissioner Kirchner also prepared a map with designated areas for the
Commissioners to cover when distributing the Nomination forms and submitted it to Secretary Borba for
distribution.
REPORTS
1. Parks Supervisor/City Arborist Disco
a. January tree planting is almost complete.
b. Annual Sycamore pruning nearing completion.
c. Three street tree appeals will likely be presented to the Beautification Commission in the upcoming
months.

Commissioner Hinckle will not be in attendance at the May Meeting.
4. Commissioner Kirchner
Absent
5. Commissioner McQuaide
Commissioner McQuaide reported they are moving forward with plans for a Community Garden at
Bayside Park.
6. Commissioner Hunt
None
The next Beautification Commission meeting is May 2, 2013. There being no further business, the meeting
adjourned at 6:55 pm.
