September 3, 2015
The regularly scheduled meeting of the Beautification Commission was called to order at 6:30 pm by
Chairperson Kirchner.
ROLL CALL
Present: Chairperson Kirchner, Commissioners McQuaide, Hunt and Dittman
Absent: Commissioner Hinckle
Staff: Parks & Recreation Director Glomstad, City Arborist Bob Disco and Recording Secretary

MINUTES
Minutes of the August 6, 2015 meeting were approved.
CORRESPONDENCE
An article regarding "How Trees calm us down" was given to the Commissioners.
An Email from Patricia Fuenzalida regarding tree removal on the 1100 block of Laguna was distributed to
the Commissioners.
PUBLIC COMMENT
Patricia Fuenzalida commented on the Camphor tree removal on Laguna. She would like to make sure
every option has been explored before removal.
Nancy Schnider commented on the Camphor tree removal on Laguna and asked who received letters
regarding the removal.
Gunnell Bercholz commented on the Camphor tree removal on Laguna.
Jennifer Pfaff commented on Caltrans marking with stakes on El Camino Real at Floribunda.
OLD BUSINESS
1. 2015 Business Landscape Award
Dale Perkins has completed the watercolor of Wachter Investments. The announcement of the
2015 Business Landscape winner was in the ENews. The presentation from Council will be on
October 19, 2015 at the council meeting.
2. Tree Planting on Trousdale
Commissioner McQuaide went over the draft letter she put together regarding tree planting on
Trousdale. Commissioner Dittman suggested forming a subcommittee to edit and review the
letter. Commissioner Dittman and Commissioner Hunt will be the subcommittee.
3. Recognition of Dale Perkins
Commissioners Kirchner discussed recognition of Dale Perkins at Arbor Day. He suggested
planting a tree and naming the day in his honor. Commissioner Dittman moved to make
Arbor Day 2015 in honor of Dale Perkins for what he has provided to the Beautification
Commission and for the beautiful paintings he has done for many years.
Commissioner Hunt seconded the motion. Motion passed 4-0
4. Residential Landscape Award for Drought Tolerant Landscapes
Commissioner Kirchner put together an overview regarding drought tolerant landscapes that was
emailed to all the Commissioners. He asked all the Commissioners to review it and come back to
the next meeting with any comments.
Commissioner Vacancies
Commissioner Kirchner stated that there are four seats open on the Beautification Commission.
October 16, 2015 is the deadline to applying to be on the Beautification Commission.
NEW BUSINESS
None
REPORTS
1. Parks Supervisor/City Arborist
1. Staff is working on the 2015-2016 large tree and stump removal contract. Included are trees on
Easton and a grove of Eucalyptus on the east side of the rail road tracks by Rollins Road.
2. The Tree Crew is still watering trees two weeks out of the month which is about 600 trees and
once a month the watering bags on El Camino Real are filled. Included in the ENews was a
reminder to residents to water their trees.
3. The fall tree planting has been postponed until November in hopes of getting some wet
weather.
4. The Burlingame Avenue Streetscape project will be before Council on Tuesday for approval to
sign off on the landscape and street scape.

3. Commissioner Kirchner
Commissioner Kirchner commented on the landscape plan for the Broadway over pass project
that was sent to the Commissioners. He also commented on how important it is to continue to
water residential trees.

5. Commissioner McQuaide
Commissioner McQuaide wanted to reiterate that she feels the City is losing too many trees
because they are inconvenient to a neighborhood or resident.
6. Commissioner Hunt
Commissioner Hunt commented on stop sign clearance and will forward the addresses to the
Arborist.
7. Commissioner Dittman
None
The next Beautification Commission meeting is October 1, 2015. There being no further business, the
meeting adjourned at 7:1Opm.
