HomeMy WebLinkAboutReso - CC - 075A-1969RESOLUTION N0. 75-A -69 RECOMMENDING THAT THE PURPOSES FOR MOTOR VEHICLE FUEL TAXES ARE PRESENTLY LIMITED BY ARTICLE XXVI OF THE CALIFORNIA CON- STITUTION BE RETAINED WITHOUT CHANGE BY THE CONSTITUTION REVISION COMMITTEE WHEREAS, there has been duly established a Constitution Revision Committee to consider needed changes in the California Constitution; and WHEREAS, the Committee on Article XXVI of that Commis- sion is holding hearings throughout the state to consider changes in said Article XXVI which presently limits the use of motor vehicle fuel taxes to expenditures for road purposes; and WHEREAS, this Council has considered the matter and has knowledge that all of the highway systems presently financed from said funds - namely; federal, state, county and cities, are des- perately in need of even more funds than are presently available, if the various highway systems are to be maintained in a safe and useable condition, and if needed improvements are to be made in the various systems in a timely fashion; WHEREAS, this Council, after due consideration,is unani- mously agreed that all of the highway, road and public street sys- tems presently financed from such taxes are in need of more funds for the construction, extension, widening, relocation, resurfacing, repair, maintenance and other improvements than are presently available. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BURLINGAME that: 1. This Council recommends to the State Constitution Revision Commission that no changes be made in the provisions of Article XXVI of the California Constitution which will remove the present limitations on the expenditure of funds derived from motor vehicle fuel taxes or that will permit the expenditure of such =unds for any purpose not related to highways, roads and public streets. -1- 2. The City Clerk be, and he is hereby, directed to forward a certified copy of this resolutionimmediately to the State Constitution Revision Commission. Mayor I, HERBERT K.
