HomeMy WebLinkAboutReso - CC - 099-2003RESOLUTION NO. 99-2003 RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BURLINGAME APPROVING CITY IN THE CALIFORNIA PUBLIC ENTITY INSURANCE AUTHORITY (CPEIA) AND AUTHORIZING CITY MANAGER TO SIGN THE AGREEMENT RESOLVED, by the City Council of the City of Burlingame: WHEREAS, the escalating costs of the workers compensation system in the State of California and the overall condition of the insurance industry have driven insurance carriers to seek premiums for excess workers compensation insurance coverage at extraordinarily high rates that many government agencies and businesses can no longer afford; and WHEREAS, the City of Burlingame is permissibly self-insured pursuant to State law for workers compensation, but in order to protect the City treasury, the City has routinely obtained excess insurance coverage; and WHEREAS, the California Public Entity Liability hisurance Authority is willing to allow the City to join its joint powers authority and utilize its services in obtaining pooled and private insurance for excess coverage, NOW, THEREFORE, IT IS RESOLVED AND ORDERED: 1. The City Manager is authorized and directed to execute the Joint Powers Agreement of the California Public Entity Liability Insurance Authority (CPEIA) on behalf of the City of Burlingame as contained in Exhibit A hereto and to further execute the Memorandum of Understanding for the CPEIA Excess Workers Compensation Program on behalf of the City as contained in Exhibit B hereto. 2. The Clerk is directed to attest to the signature of the Manager. MAY R , I, ANN T.
