A RESOLUTION URGING THE EARLY COMPLETION OF
THE ACQUISITION OF THE POINT REYES NATIONAL
SEASHORE.
BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of
Burlingame that:
WHEREAS, in 1962 the Congress of the United States authol-
ized the establishment of the Point Reyes National Seashore and
established its boundaries and size; and
WHEREAS, piecemeal acquisition of properties has resul
in a disjointed and inoperable park and caused undue burdens upon
the remaining private interests which are plagued by trespassers
and the uncertainty of the time of future acquisitions; and
WHEREAS, delay in the acquisition of the remaining pro-
perties must necessarily result in the increased cost of each,
and the prolonged uncontrolled use by private interests may do
irreparable injury to the land and the reasons for its acquisition
and
WHEREAS, the people of the United States in whose name
Congress acted to establish the Point Reyes National Seashore have
the right to the consummation of the plan and the early establish-
ment of the park in the manner and to the extent envisioned by the
original action by Congress;
NOW, THEREFORE, IT IS HEREBY DETERMINED AND ORDERED THAT
1. The Point Reyes National Seashore is of vital impor-
tance to each citizen of the United States as a representative
contribution from this generation to the next in the spirit of the
National Park System.
2. This Council joins with other public agencies and it
does hereby urge that the President of the United States and his
administration take all necessary action to complete the acquisi-

tion of the Point Reyes National Seashore in the manner approved
by Congress in order that the entire area may be preserved in the
natural state for the benefit and enjoyment of future Americans.
3. The City Clerk be, and he is hereby, directed to
cause certified copies of this Resolution to be sent to:
The Honorable Richard M. Nixon, President of the
United States;
The Honorable Ronald Reagan, Governor of the State
of California;
The Honorable Walter J. Hickel, Secretary of
The Interior;
Mr. George B. Hartzog, Director of the National
Park Service;
The Honorable George Murphy and Alan Cranston,
Senators from the State of California;
The Honorable Paul N. McCloskey, Jr., Member of
the House of Representatives from the County
of San Mateo;
The Honorable Board of Supervisors of the County
of San Mateo; and
The Honorable Council of the Cities of the County
of San Mateo,
as evidence of the determination of this Council that immediate
steps must be taken to establish and preserve this area of the
California Coastline as the Point Reyes National Seashore,
I hereby certify that the foregoing Resolution was
regularly introduced and adopted by the City Council of the City
of Burlingame at a regular meeting held on the 19th day of
January, 1970, by the following vote:
AYES, Councilmen: Amstrup-Crosby-Johnson-Martin.
NOES, Councilmen: None
