HomeMy WebLinkAboutReso - CC - 039-1973RESOLUTION N0. 39 - 73 RESOLUTION SUPPORTING, AND EXPRESSING INTENTION TO COOPERATE WITH, AREA -WIDE APPROACH TO PUBLIC TRANS- PORTATION PLANNING AND DEVELOPMENT WHEREAS, the Metropolitan Transportation Commission is responsible for comprehensive regional transportation planning for the coordination of the development of public transportation systems and the administration of certain funds in connection therewith; and WHEREAS, pursuant to Resolution No. 21-73 adopted at a regular meeting of the City Council held on the 20th day of February 1973, the City of Burlingame has applied to the Metro- politan Transportation Commission for disbursement of funds for transportation requirements of the City under Article 4 of Chapter 4 of Part 11 of Division 10 of the Public Utilities Code (the Mills-Alquist-Deddeh Act); and WHEREAS, this Council supports an area -wide approach to public transportation planning and development and desires to ex- press its intention to cooperate with other municipalities and the County of San Mateo in furthering such planning and develop- ment; and WHEREAS, a County -wide bus transportation study has recently been approved by the Metropolitan Transportation Com- mission; NOW, THEREFORE; BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BURLINGAME AS FOLLOWS: 1. This Council hereby recognizes the value, and en- - 1 - courages the rapid completion of, the above mentioned County -wide bus transportation study, and, offers its cooperation in the pre- paration of said study. 2. This Council, having made an application to the Metropolitan Transportation Commission pursuant to the above mentioned Mills-Alquist-Deddeh Act, respectfully advises the Com- mission of its intention, consistent with municipal needs and purposes, to cooperate in the preparation of the above mentioned County -wide bus transportation study, to integrate its system on an equitable basis with such sub -regional systems as may be established pursuant to the County -wide study, to effect mutual transfer points in the interim with adjacent systems, to respond diligently to reasonable requests for extension outside its cor- porate limits, to specify equipment which would not be incompat- ible with County -wide expansion of bus transportation systems, to make temporary arrangements (e.g., leases) for capital facilities, and generally to provide flexibility in the operation and develop- ment of this City's bus transportation system in order to fore- stall organizational or physical impediments to further transpor- tation consolidations. 3. This Council does hereby join with its sister cities) and with the County of San Mateo in a cooperative approach to meeting current problems created by lack of viable and necessary local transit systems in the area. 4. The City Clerk is hereby authorized and directed to transmit a certified copy of this Resolution to the Metropolitan Transportation Commission in conjunction with the public trans- portation fund claim submitted by the City of Burlingame. - 2 - I, HERBERT K.
