MEMO TO: Charles F. Schwalm, City Manager
FROM: Wayne M. Swan, City Planner
During recent investigation of how use tax money is distributed, I
learned that the State Board of Equalization has a new system for
distributing printouts of their quarterly reports. Previous mailing
to the City Clerk received no response from the City of Burlingame.
I recommend this matter be reconsidered so that we can obtain valuable
information for budgeting and economic analyses. With vehicle sales
off 260, our sales tax revenue will be down. The trend of sales tax
revenue from specialty restaurants will, hopefully, be up.
Since the quarterly reports will be made available at no charge to
the City, I think we should obtain this information. To obtain the
local sales and use tax information, the Board of Equalization
requires a resolution by the City Council authorizing the City
Manager or his representative to examine sales and use tax records.
Our Director of Finance is fully acquainted and experienced in these
matters. We think a resolution should be taken to the Council by
the Consent Calendar for early approval.
