HomeMy WebLinkAboutReso - CC - 017-1974RESOLUTION NO. 17 -74 AUTHORIZING AND DIRECTING EXECUTION AND FILING OF APPLICATION WITH METROPOLITAN TRANSPORTATION COMMISSION FOR DISBURSEMENT OF FUNDS FOR PLANNING FACILITIES FOR THE EXCLUSIVE USE BY PEDESTRIANS AND BICYCLES WHEREAS, §99234 of the California Public Utilities Code provides that after allocation for county administration and MTC administration and planning, two percent (20) of the remaining moneys shall be made available to cities and counties for facili- ties provided for the exclusive use by pedestrians and bicycles; and WHEREAS, MTC Resolution No. 117 adopted by the full com- mission on January 23, 1974, established a policy that such claims shall be administered in accordance with the basic principles of Rule 7 of the MTC Rules and Regulations; and WHEREAS, on March 4, 1974, the City Council of the City of Burlingame adopted its Resolution No. 13-74 entitled "Authorizing and Directing Filing of Application with Metropolitan Transportation Commission for Disbursement of Funds for Transpor- tation Requirements of the City of Burlingame" for disbursement of funds to meet capital and operating requirements for continued operation of the Burlingame Transit, a public transportation sys- tem; and WHEREAS, on May 15, 1972, the City Council of the City of Burlingame adopted its Resolution No. 32-72 entitled "Adopting a System of Bike Routes Through the City of Burlingame" with the - 1 - intention of creating a future bicycle path along the shoreline linking Millbrae with the bicycle path through Coyote Point Regional Park; and WHEREAS, at a regular meeting held November 26, 1973, the Burlingame Planning Commission unanimously recommended to the City Council that priority be given to adoption and implementation of a Bayside bicycle pathway; NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BURLINGAME DOES HEREBY FIND, ORDER AND DETERMINE as follows: 1. Although further need exists at this time for public transportation financial assistance, there is growing need to im- prove public access by pedestrians and by bicycle to San Francisco Bay and to lands bordering it within the Waterfront Commercial District of Burlingame; 2. The City Manager be, and he is hereby, authorized and directed to execute and file a transportation claim in the amount of $4,400.00 with the Metropolitan Transportation Commission for planning shoreline pathways for the exclusive use of pedestrians and bicycles, pursuant to the provisions of California Public Utilities Code §99234.
