HomeMy WebLinkAboutMin - PR - 2015.11.19MEETING MINUTES Regular Meeting of the Burlingame Parks & Recreation Commission Thursday, November 19, 2015 The regular meeting of the Burlingame Parks & Recreation Commission was called to order by Chairman Martin at 7:00 pm at the Burlingame Recreation Center, 850 Burlingame Ave, Burlingame. ROLL CALL Commissioners Present: Martin, Baird, Colson, Baum, Dito, Lewis, Schissler Staff Present: Parks & Recreation Director Glomstad, Supervisor Barry & Office Assistant Martin MINUTES The Minutes of the October 15, 2015 regular meeting were approved as corrected. Corrections: 1) New Business Item B: Date — November 19th; 2) Next Meeting date December 17, 2015 PUBLIC COMMENTS — Lisa Williamson, 1565 Ralston Ave. expressed concern about activity at Heritage Park which has a creek and is open to the public. She stated she has called the police due to late night activity that has caused her to feel unsafe. She requested that city staff investigate the safety issues and also the maintenance of the creek bed. Mike Noce, Recreation Coordinator, invited the Commissioners to the Annual Tree Lighting on Friday, December 4, 2015 OLD BUSINESS - None NEW BUSINESS Accreditation of Two New Field User Groups — (This item taken out of order) Supervisor Barry stated two user groups, Coyotes Lacrosse and Mercy High School, had submitted Field Use Validation Applications. Both groups qualify per the Field User Policy and he asked Commission to review the applications. After brief discussion, Commission approved both applications. City & SMUHSD Term Sheet — Glomstad reported a term sheet had been agreed upon by the City Council and the San Mateo Union High School Board. The terms include, the City will pay 78% of the operating expenses with the district paying 22%, capital improvement expenses will be split 50150 by the parties and the boy's baseball team will have use of Washington Baseball field at no charge. The use of the pool will be split 50150 during normal hours except when there is a high school meet or a physical education class. Maintenance closure dates have been narrowed down with more flexibility. Commission Rotation — Glomstad noted the rotation of the Commission chair; stepping down is Commissioner Martin and the new chair is Commissioner Baird. She thanked Martin for her service and welcomed Baird to the seat. In addition, Commissioner Colson, being elected to City Council is sitting her last meeting tonight. Glomstad welcomed the newest appointed Commissioner, Karen Malekos Smith. City Clerk Meghan Hassel Shearer administered the Oath of Office to newly appointed Commissioner Malekos Smith. Status of December Meeting — Motion by Dito (seconded by Lewis): Commission moved to cancel the regular December meeting and reconvene in January. MOTION PASSED: 7-0. Parks & Recreation Commission Minutes November 19, 2015 REPORTS / HAND-OUTS A) Parks & Recreation Department Reports 1. Monthly Report — Glomstad reported the installation of LED field lights at Murray Field is not completed to date. Also, the search for playground manufacturers for the Village Park playground is in progress. Upon completion of Village, Ray Park playground renovation will proceed. The fields will be closed down and will need maintenance to repair the damage from the drought. a. Foundation Update - None B) Correspondence - None C) Commissioners Reports - None FUTURE AGENDA ITEMS - None NEXT MEETING The next meeting of the Parks & Recreation Commission is scheduled to be held on Thursday, January 21, 2016 at 7:00 p.m. at Burlingame Recreation Center.
