HomeMy WebLinkAboutMin - PR - 2015.08.20MEETING MINUTES Regular Meeting of the Burlingame Parks & Recreation Commission Thursday, August 20, 2015 The regular meeting of the Burlingame Parks & Recreation Commission was called to order by Vice -Chairman Baird at 7:06 pm at the Burlingame Recreation Center, 850 Burlingame Ave, Burlingame. ROLL CALL Commissioners Present: Baird, Baum, Colson Commissioners Absent: Martin, Dito, Lewis, Schissler Staff Present: Parks & Recreation Director Glomstad; Recording Secretary Helley & Office Assistant Martin Others Present: None MINUTES The Minutes of the June 18, 2015 regular meeting were approved. PUBLIC COMMENTS — None OLD BUSINESS None NEW BUSINESS Commission Workshop Review — Colson reported the workshop was valuable for the networking with other local commissioners. Commission Logo Shirt — Glomstad reported the idea of the Commission having logo shirts to be identifiable when at public events. REPORTS/HANDOUTS A. Parks & Recreation Department Reports 1. Monthly Report a. Foundation Update — Colson reported the Foundation has voted in two new board members and is looking ahead at fundraising opportunities and getting the Foundation's name and presence out into the community. b. Community Center Conceptual Plan Update — Glomstad reported the study session with Council went well and will be presenting at the Planning Commission on Monday, August 24, 2015. c. Dog Park Task Force — Glomstad reported the task force will be bringing a proposal of additional hours for off leash use on the ball fields to the Commission in the near future. The group has identified an area south of Trousdale by Skyline as another potential off leash area. This may require requesting funds from Council to develop to a useable space with fencing and make it ADA accessible. The staff will initiate outreach to the neighbors. B. Commissioner Reports Commissioner Baird mentioned the California Council Land Trust is doing a campaign to get kids outside and there may be the opportunity for funding for outdoor events. Glomstad Parks & Recreation Commission Minutes August 20, 2015 — Page 2 suggested a series of nature hikes in Mills Canyon on a regular basis covering various areas of interest about the canyon. C. Correspondence None NEXT MEETING The next meeting of the Parks & Recreation Commission is scheduled to be held on Thursday, September 17, 2015 at 7:00 p.m. at Burlingame Recreation Center.
