HomeMy WebLinkAboutMin - PR - 2015.06.18MEETING MINUTES Regular Meeting of the Burlingame Parks & Recreation Commission Thursday, June 18, 2015 The regular meeting of the Burlingame Parks & Recreation Commission was called to order by Chairman Martin at 7:02 pm at the Burlingame Recreation Center, 850 Burlingame Ave, Burlingame. ROLL CALL Commissioners Present: Martin, Baird, Baum, Dito, Lewis, Schissler Commissioners Absent: Colson Staff Present: Parks & Recreation Director Glomstad; Recreation Supervisor Barry & Recording Secretary Helley Others Present: Kathy Uh, Burlingame; Mike Brunicardi, Burlingame, Nancy Dodson, Burlingame, Kieron Saunders, Burlingame, Stephen Johnson, Burlingame, Will Evans, Burlingame, Steffen Rochel, Burlingame, Doug Kniveton, Burlingame, Gayle Youlden, Burlingame, Tony Redmond, Burlingame, George Alexsovich, Burlingame, Brian & Lana Johnson, Burlingame, Steve & Elizabeth Johnson, Burlingame, John & Deborah Pivirotto, Burlingame. MINUTES The Minutes of the May 21, 2015 regular meeting were approved. PUBLIC COMMENTS — None Chair Martin moved Item New Business Item 5A. Conceptual Plans for Planning a New Community Center Presentation and Input to the top of the agenda. NEW BUSINESS Conceptual Plans for Planning a New Community Center Presentation and Input Dawn Merkes with Group 4 Architecture presented the options for site plan, floor plan and the possible architectural styles of the proposed community center. Input and community outreach was at the Burlingame Farmers Market (several Sundays), in Washington Park (several weekends), visits to the high school and the middle school, information/updates on city website, online surveys and several Parks & Recreation Commission meetings. The plan is to continue with community outreach and have a presentation for City Council in early November 2015. Public Comment Concerns were expressed about the amount and location of the parking lot for the center. OLD BUSINESS User Group Validations — Staff Report Supervisor Barry stated the user groups that are present for validation are BYBA, BGS, OLA and St. Catherine. Barry had reviewed the applications for each group and found BYBA, BGS, OLA and St. Catherine to be in compliance with all the requirements for accreditation. Parks & Recreation Commission Minutes June 18, 2015 — Page 2 Motion by Baird (seconded by Schissler): Commission moved to approve the accreditation of BYBA. MOTION PASSED 6-0-1. Motion by Dito (seconded by Baum): Commission moved to approve the accreditation of BGS. MOTION PASSED 6-0-1. Motion by Baird (seconded by Baum): Commission moved to approve the accreditation of OLA & St. Catherine. MOTION PASSED 6-0-1. BSC Field User Validation Follow-up — Staff Report With direction from Commission at the May 2015 meeting, staff formed a subcommittee to gather information about the Burlingame Soccer Club/SMC Star. The subcommittee concluded the SMC Star group does not qualify for accreditation and will be considered renters of Burlingame Fields. Motion by Dito (seconded by Baum): Commission moved to approve the accreditation of the Burlingame Soccer Club for one year. MOTION PASSED 6-0-1. NEW BUSINESS (Cont'd) July Meeting Status — Motion by Baum (seconded by Schissler): Commission moved to the cancel the July regular meeting. MOTION PASSED 6-0-1. General Plan Update Community Advisory Committee Director Glomstad requests a volunteer and an alternate from the Commission to serve on the Community Advisory Committee for the General Plan Update for the City. Chair Martin volunteered and Commissioner Dito will be the alternate. REPORTS/HANDOUTS A. Parks & Recreation Department Reports 1. Monthly Report a. Foundation Update — Glomstad reported the Foundation has had booths at the Dragons Soccer games in the tailgate area. B. Commissioner Reports None C. Correspondence None NEXT MEETING The next meeting of the Parks & Recreation Commission is scheduled to be held on Thursday, August 20, 2015 at 7:00 p.m. at Burlingame Recreation Center.
