MEETING MINUTES Regular Meeting of the Burlingame Parks & Recreation Commission Thursday, May 21, 2015 The regular meeting of the Burlingame Parks & Recreation Commission was called to order by Chairman Martin at 7:05 pm at the Burlingame Recreation Center, 850 Burlingame Ave, Burlingame. ROLL CALL Commissioners Present: Martin, Baird, Colson, Dito, Lewis, Schissler Commissioners Absent: Baum Staff Present: Parks & Recreation Director Glomstad; Recreation Supervisor Barry, Recreation Coordinator Guastella & Recording Secretary Helley Others Present: Robert Bierman, AYSO; Kieron Saunders, BSC, Gary Rainville, AYSO & Roy Schnabel, BSC, Barbara Bonel, SMC Star MINUTES The Minutes of the April 16, 2015 regular meeting were approved as amended: Commissioner Lewis was absent; Commissioner Schissler was present. PUBLIC COMMENTS — None OLD BUSINESS — None NEW BUSINESS User Group Validations — Staff Report — Supervisor Barry stated the user groups that are present for validation are AYSO and the Burlingame Soccer Club/SMC Star. Barry has reviewed the applications for each group and found AYSO to be in compliance with all the requirements for accreditation and had questions about the Burlingame Soccer Club/SMC Star relationship. AYSO and Burlingame Soccer Club/SMC Star presented information about their respective organizations. Commission discussed the applications of both groups. Motion by Dito (seconded by Lewis): Commission moved to approve the accreditation of AYSO for a three year term. MOTION PASSED 6-0-1. Commission noted that BSC and SMC Star are two separate 501©3's but are blended in service to the community. To clarify the status of each organization, the Commission requested further information regarding the relationship of the two groups to be presented at the next Commission meeting. Motion by Baird (seconded by Schissler): Commission moved to approve the accreditation of the Burlingame Soccer Club conditional on the additional information that is provided. MOTION PASSED 6-0-1. Parks & Recreation Commission Minutes May 21, 2015 — Page 2 Youth Advisory Committee By -Laws — Staff Report — Coordinator Guastella reported the Committee was requesting a change to their by-laws that needed to be approved by the Commission. The change is increasing the term from one year to two years to allow for increased continuity within the group; the exception to the change will be if an applicant is entering the twelfth grade, they would only serve one year. Motion by Colson (seconded by Dito): Commission moved to approve the change the term from one year to two year in the Youth Advisory Committee By -Laws as proposed. MOTION PASSED 6-0-1. Dog Park Task Force Members — Staff Report - Director Glomstad requested the Chair appoint a Commissioner to the Dog Park Task Force. Chair Martin inquired if any Commissioner would like to serve. Commissioner Dito volunteered to serve on the Task Force. REPORTS/HANDOUTS A. Parks & Recreation Department Reports 1. Monthly Report a. Foundation Update — Glomstad reported the Foundation has had booths at the Dragons Soccer games in the tailgate area. B. Commissioner Reports None C. Correspondence None NEXT MEETING The next meeting of the Parks & Recreation Commission is scheduled to be held on Thursday, June 18, 2015 at 7:00 p.m. at Burlingame Recreation Center.
