HomeMy WebLinkAboutMin - PR - 2016.02.18MEETING MINUTES Regular Meeting of the Burlingame Parks & Recreation Commission Thursday, February 18, 2016 The regular meeting of the Burlingame Parks & Recreation Commission was called to order by Chairman Baird at 7:00 pm at the Burlingame Recreation Center, 850 Burlingame Ave, Burlingame. ROLL CALL Commissioners Present: Baird, Baum, Dito, Lewis, Schissler, Malekos Smith Staff Present: Parks & Recreation Director Glomstad, Administrative Assistant Helley, Recreation Coordinator Bliss and Program Outreach Specialist Rosales Others Present: Lisa Williamson, Burlingame; John Calvin, Burlingame; Erica Lyons, Hillsborough; Kiernan Saunders, Burlingame, BSC MINUTES The Minutes of the January 21, 2016 regular meeting were approved. PUBLIC COMMENTS — Lisa Williamson expressed gratitude for the work that has been done. She noted the picnic table under the trees closer to the front of the park has been moved back and suggested it be secured into place. Chair Baird closed public comment. OLD BUSINESS - None NEW BUSINESS Kimberly Rosales — Program Outreach Specialist — Program Outreach Specialist Rosales introduced herself. Her focus will be on value "adds" to programs, obtaining grant funds, sponsorships and generally marketing and PR along with community outreach. Sydney Bliss — Recreation Coordinator — Coordinator Bliss introduced herself. Her areas of responsibility are fitness classes, language classes, Adult Performing Arts, Martial Arts and miscellaneous classes. She is also working as the building attendant in the evenings and this allows her to interact with most of the contract instructors under her umbrella and to obtain feedback from the students participating in the classes. AED's In Local Parks — Erica Lyons is working with Via Heart Project in the effort to create as many Heart Safe Campuses in the area as possible. This includes having enough trained persons and enough AED equipment onsite to save lives. Glomstad reported there will be AED's installed in additional City facilities in the upcoming year, including the Parks Yard, the Golf Center and Village Park. Items of Interest — Glomstad reported the Department will be receiving the CPRS Award of Excellence for Neighborhood/Community Building for the Burlingame Family Campout at the March conference in Long Beach. Parks & Recreation Commission Minutes February 18, 2016 She also reported the upcoming Arbor Day Event on March 71h at 10:30 am will be in Washington Park and the Compost Give Away on March 12th at 8 am to 12 pm will be at 420 Carolan Ave. c. Foundation Update - None B) Correspondence - None C) Commissioners Reports - None FUTURE AGENDA ITEMS - None NEXT MEETING The next meeting of the Parks & Recreation Commission is scheduled to be held on Thursday, March 17, 2016 at 7:00 p.m. at Burlingame Recreation Center.
