OLD BUSINESS - None
NEW BUSINESS
Youth Advisory Committee — Presentation — Coordinator Rath introduced members of the Youth
Advisory Committee who spoke about the accomplishments of the committee for the past year. The
group worked to enhance the lives of youths, teens and the community by participating in and
administering volunteer programs. These included attending the YAC social, decorating holiday
cookies and donated them to Call Primrose, assisted in the Annual Holiday Tree Lighting, and worked
with Moms Against Poverty and Central County Fire for the Holiday Helping Hands food drive. In
February, the group will help host the annual 8t grade Glow Dance, a Senior Valentines Dance and the
Princess Project Fundraiser. In April, they will host the annual Mission Impastable event.
Kevin Sanchez — Recreation Coordinator — Coordinator Sanchez introduced himself. His areas of
responsibility are elementary school sports, youth sports and camps, art & cooking classes. He is
coordinating the community garden and updating community sign boards and art displays in the
Recreation Center. His experience has been in college sports and is enjoying his experience in
recreation.
Heritage Park Use — Glomstad reported the actions that have been taken by the Parks Division in
Heritage Park to increase visibility to the creek from the street. The clearing of ivy covered fences and
the addition of signage with the city ordinance listed along with increased patrols after hours will
hopefully decrease the nighttime activity. Commission had requested the call log for Heritage Park
which is included in the agenda packet.
Commissioner Malekos Smith inquired if there was adequate lighting in the park. Glomstad said there
was street lighting and a light in the creek.
Chair Baird opened public comment.
Parks & Recreation Commission Minutes
January 21, 2016
Lisa Williamson expressed gratitude for the work that has been done and offered suggestions to further
increase the safety of the park after dark. The first suggestion was to remove the bench by the Creekside
and the second was to move the picnic table under the trees closer to the front of the park.
Chair Baird closed public comment.
Commissioner Dito noted the suggestions by Ms. Williamson were good suggestions and further
suggested the park hours be the focus of enforcement.
Chair Baird requested this item remain on the agenda for updates and the call log be revisited in April or
May when nighttime activity increases in the park due to warmer weather.
Playground Renovations — Glomstad reported a manufacturer for playground equipment has been
determined for future playground installations. The first project is Village Park playground. A
landscape architect has been selected and a budget has been approved by Council. A committee of two
Commissioners, staff, preschool teachers, and community members has been organized for the project.
The next playground project is Ray Park and that planning will begin in the spring. The final project is
Victoria Park playground. The project will begin as the Public Works pump station project progresses.
