Call to Order President Donaldson called the meeting to order at 5:30PM. II. Roll Call Trustees Present: Betsy Corcoran (by phone), Debra Donaldson', Lisa Rosenthal N Trustees Ab*ent: Kerbey Altmann and Mike Nagler Staff Present: Brad McCulley, City Librarian � Sidney Poland, Recorder- Library Library Board Candidates Dennis Gale Marilyn Meyerson Randy Murray Shannon Culley III. Library Board of Trustee Minutes The May 19, 2015 Board of Trustee minutes were unanimously approved. M/S/C (Donaldson/Rosenthal) IV. Correspondence and Information A. Statistics Circulation is slowly increasing. Total circulation for both main and Easton was 48,744 compared to 54,813 for May of 2014. Percentage difference was' -5.92%. The library has purchased a new laser counter for both the main and Bellevue entrances which should provide a more accurate patron count. B. Study Rooms 1. Reservation Policies - Brad reviewed the reservation policy for the 3 study rooms, Teen study room, Tech Lab and Upper Level Meeting Room. Statistics are being recorded for each room. Study rooms are in use on a regular basis. Demand will grow as more patrons become aware of the new facilities the library has to offer. 2. Trustee Suggestions for Study Room Procedures • Policies for each study room need to be clear to patrons. • Print and post policies in a visible area. A. City Librarian's Report - Highlights 1. Personnel 1... • Leslie McDaniel and Chelsie Bell have joined the Circulation Dept. as new pages. Recruitment has begun for a 30 hour per week cataloger and Library Assistant III Tech/Lab Supervisor. • Maryam Refahi and Ray DeLara received American Library Association Public Relation awards. Maram's award is for her 2014 Summer Reading Log and Ray's for his Instagram #bookfaces which made the New York Times. 2. Cafe • Cafe flooring has been laid. • Plumbing is in progress. • Design plans in final stages. • Bob Schmidt has been contracted with to do the cabinetry work. (This includes counter, counter top, shelving and cabinets.) B. Foundation Report The Foundation has contracted with Discover Books. This company will pick up all the books the Foundation cannot find an outlet for. Discarded books will no longer be put in the recycling bin. Discover Books will provide their own bin. Delivery of the bin is planned for this week. VI. Unfinished Business A. Our Library Our Future The campaign committee is planning to have a ribbon cutting event in late summer or early fall. This event will coincide with the completion of the donor wall. At this time the City will be presented with a $ 500,000 check which will fulfill the Foundation's pledge of raising $ 1 million dollars for the project. B. Joint Council Commission Meeting June 15, 2015 This meeting was cancelled due to lack of a Trustee quorum. The Mayor will reschedule the meeting most likely sometime in September. C. Donor Wall and Plaque Pat Harding, Patty Anixter and Al Escoffier have been working with Michele Savage of VKK to determine the layout of the plaques in regard to size and material type, as well as making certain that all names are spelled correctly. VII. New-Business A. Summer Meeting Schedule The Trustees discussed the possibility of canceling the July meeting due to vacation schedules. Trustee Donaldson will e-mail the Board after contacting Trustees Altmann and Nagler. Lisa Rosenthal will be on vacation in August. B. Trustee Website Trustee Donaldson suggested that the Trustee Website should harmonize with the City Website. Also, putting photos and short biographical sketches of.the current Trustees on the Website would help to personalize the format. �. 2 C. New Trustee Position The Library Board of Trustee Interviews will be held on Tuesday July 7, 2015 at 6:OOPM in Conference Room A. The City Council will select the new Trustee at the August 17th council meeting. VIIL Adjournment The meeting was adjourned at 7:OOPM. The next meeting of the Library Board of Trustees is tentatively scheduled for July 18, 2015. President Donaldson will confirm the meeting schedule after consulting with Trustees Altmann and Nagler. Tech Svcs has hired Andrea San Andreas as our new Permanent Part-time Cataloging Librarian and we will be posting internally for a Library Assitant III Tech/Lab supervisor. We will be posting for an Adult Services Manager beginning in September. Sidney will be on vacation from Stn -241 News— • The Adult Summer Reading theme this year is Summer In Austenland. On July 23rd staff held a very successful Tea Party Social with over 250 participants and including Foundation and Trustee volunteers. • Children's Dept held 9 Family Fun Nights this year thanks to the Foundation and Board of Trustees (two per Tuesday) and as successful as ever!! A� d • Our Teen librarian, Kim Day, has negotiated a 4 —week YA App Development Workshop led by two generous Salesforce.com software engineers, very exciting! • Thanks to the Foundation the Library will now be offering a limited number of BHS textbooks that teens may check-out and use in-library to be able to complete assignments • Congresswoman Jackie Speier is following Burlingame Library on Instagram! 1 Millennium Project—August 17th we will present our Staff Report to City Council closing out our project with Zolman Construction. Our Cafe project will hopefully be completed by the first week of September.
