May 4, 1949
A regular meeting of the Burlingame Library Board was held on the
above date. Present were: Mrs. Johnson, Messers Hall and Burns. Also
present was Mrs. Dombaugh, Assistant Librarian. Mr .Hall welcomed
Mr. Burns as a new member..
The minutes of the April 6, 1949 and April 25, 1949 meetings were
t
read and approved.
The bud et item of Senior Librarian's (Children) salary was
ammended to 3045 and thi total budget to $47,561. Mrs. Dombaugh was
instructed to prepare copies of the budget and transmittal letter for
Mr. White and each Council member.
Correspondence was read as follows: A letter from Mr. Colby
thanking the Board and staff for the presentation of the resolution;
A request from the Coilmercial Building Maintenance Co. requesting
-permission to bid on janitorial work for both Main and Branch; (Mrs.
Dombaugh was instructed to consult with Mr. Rancelli as to the work
done at the Main and have the above firm quote on it) a application
for a position in the library by Miss Lorene Pouncey; A letter from
Mr. Alan L. Straus of B.B. Stern & Co. stating that this firm did
not do work on furnaces of the type at the Main library and giving
suggestions and prices for work at the Branch; a letter from Chief
Theuer saying that patrolmen would call occasionally at the Branch
library. Mrs. Dombaugh was instructed to turn Mr. Straus ' letter
over to Mr. Fitch.
The monthly report was read and ordered filed. Bills to the
amount of $3535.51 were ordered paid At. it was decided not to
cancel warrant no. 1636 to Phillips � sdI warrant for the
full amount of the bill but to send them this warrant with a
second for the balance of $110-.09.
Mr. Hall reported that the open house and presentation of J
the resolution were a success.

Mr. Hallr eported that an interview with Mr. Schultz he was
informed that there would be no consideration of salary changes
this year. '
Mrs. Dombaugh was instructed to pay the Park Department quarterly
instead of yearly.
Mrs. Dombaugh made the following reports : Mr. White has been
asked for an outdoor ash can which will probably be forthcoming when
new,ones are purchased for the city; she had written letters to Capt.
Moorby and Mr,. Fitch thanking them for their help on the furnace,
to Chief Theuer asking that patrolmen stop by the Branch occasionally,
and to B.B.. Stern asking them to investigate the furnaces; in regard
to the request for two Stenographer-Clerks Mrs. Dombaugh was advised
by Mr. White to make no request until the list had been posted; she
interviewed Mr. Fitch and was informed that the lights would be in-
Stalled by May 31, 1949; Mr. Watson, Building Inspector made a personal
investigation Of the electric plate in the staff room and stated that
a gas plate would be perfectly all right and would save money; Miss
Welbasky's vacation has not yet been acted upon by the City Council;
We cannot obtain an adding machine this fiscal year.
Mr. Hall reported that no by-laws have been prepared to date but
will be in the near future.

P puttdnA Mrs. Harriet Meuer on the staff as
Library Aid in a temporary capacity until the City Council makes
Permanent appointment. She was granted a three weeks leave of
absence.
Mrs. Emily Elysappointment on an hourly temporary basis while
Mrs. Meuel is on leave wa8 ratified:by action of the Board.
There being no further business' the meeting adjourned.
