Trustees Present: President JO71SON, Mrs. HARRISON, Pur. BURNS,
and Xr. TEAL
Trustees Absent: ',Mr. FICF_TNER
LIBRARY ASSISTANT Six candidates for the position of Libra.r7 Assistant were inter-
viewed 9.11 being on the eligibility list as submitted by the
Civil Lervice Commission and accepted by the City Council. These
were: Mrs. Alda. H. JETT; Miss ANN E. ADATdS; Mrs. WK. J. BECKEN-
HAUrER;T:irs. 0. A. BJORGAN; Truss JACQUELYN LaFLEUR; and Mrs. E. L.
OAKS. Follo=wing the interviews, there was due consideration
given and the first two named were selected.. The Librarian was
ordered to inforr. all six of the results, and to tell the two
selected that thoir term would begin with June 16th. The appoiht-
ments are contingent upon their passing satisfactorily a p#ysical
examination, to paid for by themselves.
JANITOR SERVICE The two principal partners of Rancelli, Lemattei && Co. appeared
before the Board to explain various conditions regarding their
word:. The Board requested them to present in :writing a supple-
mentary option for their original bid, wherein (for a considera-
tion) they :would furnish various supplies and equipment for the
upkeep of the two Library buildings. -
AMII\,UTES The minutes of the; regular meeting of May 5th; of the special
meeting of Yay 10; and of the special meeting of May 15th were
separately read and approved as read.
BILLS Bills to the sum of $3,771,71 were ordered. paid upon motion of
Mr. BURNS with the second by Tr. TEAL.

statistics sheet and gyve a brief sur_mary of the June 5th meeting
of the East Bay Library Executives held at the Oakland Public
Library.
FII r_ S.H?-,DJ LE. Upon motion of Mr. TEAL with the second by Nr. BURNS it was agreed
that the non-resident library fee should continue at 2 per year
until further information coald be collected; further, that the
fees on overdue library materials should be as follows, to take
effect on July lst after notifiying the public in every manner:
all general collection books 2� a day
(adult and. juvenile)
new (7-day) novels 5V a day
phonograph record albums 5V a day
magazines and pamphlets 2� a: day
overnight books 25�, a day
maximums:
$1.010 on each book or album
cost price on magazines and p:a.rphlets
FLUORESCENT The Librarian reported that the remainder of the fluorescent fix-
FIXTURES tured had been installed inthestack area; there remain but ter
units_ possible to install, and these are all in the closed stacks.

teOTIOT PICTURES >s the Friday afternoon moving picture program was an experiment,
authorized to continue only through Jure 16th, Mir. McLean was
asked about its popularity and usefulness. He reported that an
average of thirty-two persons had seen the eleven shows presented
to date. ","!hereupon Mr. BURNS made a motion, seconded by Mrs.
HARRI30N that the
., programs continue as lon,r, as the librarian
deems them =arorth-,vhi1e.
BY-LA 7S The b7,-laNs, as amended at their first reading of May 3rd, were
=,iven the required second. reading. Upon motion of Mr. TEAL, with
the second. by Mr. BURNS, the vote was unanimous to adopt them.
COPV' PTIOi' hen informed by the librarian that the 52nd annual convention
of the California Library Association irould be held. in Sacramento
June 21st thru 24th, the Board agreed to allow Mr. McLean $42.00
and each staff member (up to four) Ea6.14 (' 2.00 re,^ristration fee
and x-4.14 transportation) for a gran• total of ;'66.56 permissible.
The vote was unanimous upon motion of Ztr. TEAL with the second by
Mr. BURNS. `
NE' BUSINESS Because of the absence of Mr. FICHTW R action, upon a rental
collection and the Friends of the Library was tabled.
OLD BUSIP:ESS: The report of the inventory as completed was delivered to the
IAV:,i"I ORY Board by the librarian. It showed that the Library's holdings,
as of May 31st, amount to 83,293 accessioned volumes.
EXFIRI':'' The Library had been invited to participate by having an exhibit
at the Peninsula Pacific Industries Forum in the Fiest Building,
June 16th thru 25th. Upon motion of X11r. BURNS, with the second
by Mrs. HARRISON, the invitation was not accepted because of the
other activities of the Library.
Upon motion of Mr. TEAL with the second by Iiir. BURNS, the vote
was unanimous to adjourn.
