OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF THE
BURLINGAM4E PUBLIC LIBRARY HELD

Trustees present: President Johnson, Mrs. Harrison, Mr. Burns
Trustees absent: Mr. Fichtner, Mr. Teal
The reading of the minutes of the July 5th meeting were
postponed to the next meeting of the Board
REPORTS The Librarian's statistical and financial reports were
considered. Mrs. Dombaugh, Assistant Librarian reported
on the ceremony held at the San Mateo County Library in
Redwood City on Tuesday, August 1, 1950. A plaque was un-
veiled and dedicated to her. Dennis OtKeefe, publisher and
editor, who has given bound files of old county newspapers to
the library. Miss Clara Dills, County Librarian, Dr. Stanger,
Mir., Cloud and others spoke.
BILLS The bills for the month of July were presented. After
correction of the P.G. & E. bill, on motion of hir. Burns and
second. by Mrs:. Harrison, it was voted that the bills to the
amount of $3481.72, be paid.
BUDGET The 1950-51 library budget, as passed by the City Council on
Tuesday, August 8, 1950, was compared with the budget as
requested by the Library Board.
OLD BUSINESS A letter from Rancelli, Demattei was re-read, asking that the
library increase the payment to thenfor janitorial services
by $25.00 a month, they to furnish all equipment and supplies,
until the expiration of their contract. A motion was made by
Mrs. Harrison and seconded by Mir. Burns that the additional
amount of $25.00 per month be paid. The vote was favorable.
Mrs. Dombaugh was instructed to notify Mr. Rancelli and Mr.
Demattei to this effect.
NEW BUSINESS ' Mrs. Dombaugh reported. that, due to the fact that the city
did not have a film projector, lr. White, City Clerk,
brought in his projector to the library and showed films on
the afternoon of Friday, August 4, 1950. Mrs. Harrison
stated that she had attended the showing and that there
were present 4 adults and a number of children, all small.
In her opinion, the films were not of interest to small
children. On motion of Mr. Burns and seconded by Mrs.
Harrison, it was voted that the showing of educational films
on Friday afternoons be discontinued, and that Mrs. Dombaugh
so notify the newspapers. Mrs. Dombaugh was adked to write
Mr. White and thank him for using his projector and showing
the films the previous Friday.
Mrs. Dombaugh was instructed to communicate with Mr. McLean
and determine from him the location of several books indi-
cated as delivered from Stanford University, which she cannot
find.
The dhecking account was discussed. On motion of Mr. Burns,
seconded by Mrs. Harrison, it was unanimously voted that the
account be closed and that the balance be drawn out by Mrs.
Johnson and deposited in the Petty Cash fund. -
Mr. Burns checked over the petty cash receipts for the month
of July.
Mrs. Dombaugh announced that Firs. Bertha lanwell was in the
hospital for observation. The Board grantO d 61rs. Dombaugh
permission to increase Mrs. Mulcahyts hours over the one-
half tire during the emergency.
It was decided that the check from Fir. 1°1cLean to the library
be cashed and the money put in the Petty Cash fund. Mrs.
Johnson will do this.
The report on the number of card holdrs who are non-resident and
who work in Burlingame was tabled.
The McNaughton circulating library plan was tabled
CORRESPONDENCE A letter was read from Mrs. Jack Charnow of Btnai Btrith
Women's Grand Lodge, District no. 4. She indicated that a gift
of books is being forwarded to the library. Mrs. Dombaugh
is to see whether or not the books have arrived and acknowledge
the letter.
A letter from the City Planning Commission in regard to the
inadvisability of trying to make a parking space on the
library's limited property was read.
Letters were read from the California Association of Parlia-
mentarians, The Girl Scout Council, The Girl Scout Training
Committee, requesting the use of the Assembly roomfor the
year 1950-51, and thanking the Board for past use of the
room. On motion of bir. Burns, seconded by Mrs. Harrison, it
was voted that their requests be granted. Mrs. Dombaugh is
to so inform them.
A letter was read from Delta Mu Delphian Chapter, Burlingame,
thanking the Board for the use of the assembly room and en-
closing a check for $7.25 for the purchase of some book for
the library. Mrs. Dombaugh was instructed to thank the
Chapter and purchase a suitable book. �Yhen that is done she
will make a report to that effect.
A letter was read from Mr."F.F. McLean requesting compensation
for the two week vacation period allowed city employees who
have worked one year under the classified service. In addition
he wished compensation for one holiday. The matter was dis-
cussed and held over for a short period.
BOOK DISCARDS Mrs. Harrison outlined a plan whereby discarded books would be
distributed to suitable places under the auspices of the Red
Cross. It was moved by Mr. Burns, sem nded by Mrs. Harrison
and voted that she see to this distribution of books and
magazines. The outlets would be the Veteran's Hospital,
Moffat Field, the Old People's Home and the C-hild.ren's Hos-
pital 'and others as found.
A letter from Mrs. Sophie Root regarding the appointment of a
City Librarian was read. It was the opinion of the Board that
such letters would be welcome.
On motion of Mrs. Harrison, seconded by Mr. Burns, it was voted
the meeting adjourn.
