The campaign, which we are calling, Our Library,Our Future will support the Library's most important initiative in the past 20 years and builds on the library's century-long commitment to learning and Literacy in our community. The campaign's goal is to raise$3.5 million,of which$2.5 million is already committed by the City of Burlingame: The Burlingame City Council has charged the Burlingame Library Foundation and the Library Board of Trustees with raising the remaining$1 Million.-We are requesting$100,000 from the Duncan Trust to start the campaign. The Burlingame Public Library is busier than ever! In 2012-13 we hada total circulation of 761,795 which was 5.6%over last year and an all-time high. We have also seen-a big, increase in the circulation of children and teen materials-25%in the last 3 years and 374,464 in 2012-13. We have been so successful because we continually evolve to meet the needs of our community—more outreach to our schools, increased Internet stations, and additional teen and children's Programming. Over 22,000 children and teens participated in library programs this past year. We have also increased " our adult programing, offering programs to meet the community's needs and interests. This past year we served over 220 people through our jobs programs which include resume writing, interview skills, and employer roundtables. People study and use the library differently than they did in the past. They study together,engage-with tutors or mentors, and take classes on job hunting, college admissions,,computer skills, and more. No longer just a place to find information, the library has become a place for cultural enrichment and lifelong learning. The project calls for reconfiguring and expanding the public spaces within the library to meet these changing needs and the flexibility to meet the needs of the future. The plans include: A dedicated Technology Learning Lab with 21 additional computers with high speed bandwidth,an overhead projector,a screen and video conferencing capability,an expanded teen area with 8 computers, lounge seating, group study tables and a dedicated study room that seats 6,three additional group study rooms with built in technology,a-largemeeting room with an overhead projector, screen, and video conferencing capabilities,a cafe, a Foundation book store and an automated check-in system. At their October.15, 2013 meeting, the Library Board of Trustees approved the request to the Silicon Community , Foundation to allocate$100,000 from the Duncan Trust. If you need further documentation, please let me know.
