The Trustees approved the minutes for the February 19, 2013 meeting.

The Trustees reviewed the statistics andnoted that circulation is continuing to
climb at both the main library and Easton.

A. City Librarian's Report-Highlights
t 1. Personnel News -Kelly Mackewicz has been selected to fill the full

time position as Teen/Children's Librarian: Kelly will join the Children's
staff on March 25th. Kimberly Day has accepted the on-call position.
2. Millennium Project Managers Meeting February 26th- Items

• Design Layout-location of some collections refined; public access
computers will increase from 37-57.
• Budget - completing the project in 9 months will result in
approximate savings of$ 100,000.
• Plan Check- review scheduled for April 23rd
• Handicapped Parking Space - handicapped parking place in library
parking area will be replaced with a short term parking space to
accommodate patrons dropping off materials for the material ,'
handling system. Handicapped space will be moved to the front of the
library. '

3. Millennium Project Managers Meeting March 19th
• Carpet Squares - Group 4 brought a variety of carpet square samples
to give the managers an overview of designs and colors that they
might want to consider for flooring in the remodel. Pat Harding
expressed concern about the longevity of the squares. After much
discussion, the staff expressed an interest in researching the
possibility of replacing the old carpet with the same carpet design.
Andrea requested that Pat send her a piece of the original carpet and
she would contact the new owner of Monterey Carpet.
• Signage -Andrea noted that she envisioned the wood trim identifying
the signage to be a lighter shade than the darker stain that is used
throughout the library. Pat stated that she preferred the darker stain
for the trim in order to preserve the 1930's ambience. One of the goals
of the 1997 remodel was to keep the look and feel of the 1930's
library that is so enduring to the residents. This remodel should have
the same focus.
4. City Budget -At their first budget meeting for the Fiscal Year 2013-2014
and after hearing the financials for the mid-year budget, the City Council
was inclined to agree to a 2% increase in next year's budget.
B. Foundation
Invitations to the annual Foundation's Book and Author Luncheon will be
sent out March 24th. The luncheon will be held at the Peninsula Golf and
Country Club on May 11th and will feature authors Michelle Richmond, Julia
Scheeres and Donai Bijan. The April Book Sale will be held April 18th
through the 21st.
VII. Unfinished Business
A. Living History Update - Brad McCulley
Brad McCulley gave an informative update to the Trustees on the current status
of the Living History Project.
• Equipment Purchased- Grant money was allocated towards the
purchase of a camera, portable light gray backdrop, Mac computer
specifically for editing film, I Movie editing software, and a large camera
case.
• Scheduled Interviews - Rosalie O'Mahoney will be interviewed on
March 22nd and Alvin Horn on April 4th. Al Escoffier and Dave Crosato
have agreed to interviews. No dates have been determined.
• Website Feature -John Piche, Reference Librarian, created the Living
History Page which includes a form Brad prepared for Website users who
might want to suggest a possible candidate for the project. Brad would
like to include persons who have diverse backgrounds.
• Camera and Editing Crew- Brad has put together a reliable group of
volunteers to help with filming and editing. Crew members are Jason Yap
Merrill Kornai, and Travis Dickerson.
• Eureka Grant Terms - Brad is required to complete 8 videos by August.

B. Capital Campaign Update Pat Harding
Pat Harding prepared an "Elevator List" of current services the Library offers
to the public and requested comments and suggestions from the Trustees.
The purpose of the list was to provide talking points for those members of
the campaign committee who will ask for donations. The Trustees
recommended more emphasis on the Job and Outreach programs.
C. CIP Budget Request For 2013-2014 Millennium Budget
Trustees McCormack and Corcoran questioned the reported savings of
$100,000 resulting from changing the project to a 9 month time frame and
expressed their feelings that the savings should be more.
D. Employee Appreciation Event
President Corcoran requested that Trustee McCormack frame the discussion
on the staff appreciation event and include the findings in the April packet as
an agenda item.
VIII. Announcements
A. Date Change
The Trustees discussed the possibility of changing their next meeting
scheduled for April 16th to April 23rd due to the fact two of the Trustees have
possible scheduling conflicts. President Corcoran will contact Trustee Towle
and report the consensus to the Board. A notice will be posted at City Hall if
the meeting is re-scheduled. Changing the date of the May meeting was also
discussed. This will be an agenda item for the April meeting.
B. Trustee Positions
Trustees McCormack and Rosenthal's 3 year terms will be completed on
June 30th. They may re-apply for another 3'year term. Letters announcing
the board openings will be sent to persons who have applied for commission
positions in the past two years and a notice will be posted on the City
Website. Applications will be due on May 24th.
IX. Adjournment
The meeting was adjourned at 7:00pm. (M/S/C) (Rosenthal/McCormack) The
next meeting of the Library Board of Trustees is currently scheduled for April
16th in Library Conference Room.
