3. Millennium Project Managers Meeting March 19th
• Carpet Squares - Group 4 brought a variety of carpet square samples
to give the managers an overview of designs and colors that they
might want to consider for flooring in the remodel. Pat Harding
expressed concern about the longevity of the squares. After much
discussion, the staff expressed an interest in researching the
possibility of replacing the old carpet with the same carpet design.
Andrea requested that Pat send her a piece of the original carpet and
she would contact the new owner of Monterey Carpet.
• Signage -Andrea noted that she envisioned the wood trim identifying
the signage to be a lighter shade than the darker stain that is used
throughout the library. Pat stated that she preferred the darker stain
for the trim in order to preserve the 1930's ambience. One of the goals
of the 1997 remodel was to keep the look and feel of the 1930's
library that is so enduring to the residents. This remodel should have
the same focus.
4. City Budget -At their first budget meeting for the Fiscal Year 2013-2014
and after hearing the financials for the mid-year budget, the City Council
was inclined to agree to a 2% increase in next year's budget.
B. Foundation

sent out March 24th. The luncheon will be held at the Peninsula Golf and
Country Club on May 11th and will feature authors Michelle Richmond, Julia
Scheeres and Donai Bijan. The April Book Sale will be held April 18th
through the 21st.

might want to suggest a possible candidate for the project. Brad would
like to include persons who have diverse backgrounds.
• Camera and Editing Crew- Brad has put together a reliable group of
volunteers to help with filming and editing. Crew members are Jason Yap
Merrill Kornai, and Travis Dickerson.
• Eureka Grant Terms - Brad is required to complete 8 videos by August.

B. Capital Campaign Update Pat Harding
Pat Harding prepared an "Elevator List" of current services the Library offers
to the public and requested comments and suggestions from the Trustees.
The purpose of the list was to provide talking points for those members of
the campaign committee who will ask for donations. The Trustees
recommended more emphasis on the Job and Outreach programs.
C. CIP Budget Request For 2013-2014 Millennium Budget
Trustees McCormack and Corcoran questioned the reported savings of
$100,000 resulting from changing the project to a 9 month time frame and
expressed their feelings that the savings should be more.
D. Employee Appreciation Event
President Corcoran requested that Trustee McCormack frame the discussion
on the staff appreciation event and include the findings in the April packet as
an agenda item.
VIII. Announcements
A. Date Change
The Trustees discussed the possibility of changing their next meeting
scheduled for April 16th to April 23rd due to the fact two of the Trustees have
possible scheduling conflicts. President Corcoran will contact Trustee Towle
and report the consensus to the Board. A notice will be posted at City Hall if
the meeting is re-scheduled. Changing the date of the May meeting was also

City Librarian Report to Trustees
April 23, 2013
Increased Bandwidth at the Library- PLS Administrative Council voted to approve the CENIC
(Corporation for Education Initiatives in California) contract on Monday, April 8th. The CENIC
Bandwidth Infrastructure Project will provide 1 Gbps to Burlingame Main Library. The project is
going to be phased in and Burlingame will be one of the first libraries to migrate to the new
CENIC circuit. This should be completed by July 2013. Easton will be upgraded to 20 Mbps.
This is a very exciting project and one that will impact staff and patrons, providing a much faster
Internet connection. We will be a model for the entire state for use of CENIC. The California
State Library is doing a "budget ask" involving the CENIC/CLA/State Library proposal to connect
libraries to the CENIC backbone.
New Portable Sound System-. We purchased a new portable sounds system that will fit our
needs now and for the future. The first use will come in the Children's Room for the Lemony
Snicket program on Monday,April 291h but it is powerful enough to be used outside on the
front steps as well. Other upcoming uses will be our Summer Reading Kick-off and Patio
Booksale on Saturday,June 15th and the Children's Holiday Tea. t
