Call to Order President Corcoran called the meeting to order at 5:30pm. II. Roll Call Trustees Present: Betsy Corcoran, Deborah Griffith, Lisa Rosenthal, Sandy Towle Trustee Absent: Katie McCormack Staff Present: Pat Harding, City Librarian Sidney Poland, Recorder III. Library Board of Trustees August 21, 2012. Minutes The August 21, 2012 minutes were approved as written. M/S/C (Rosenthal/Griffith) IV. Correspondence and Information _ A. Library Circulation August Statistics - Easton Branch/Main Circulation statistics for August show a 2.51% increase at the Main and a - 3.45% decrease at Easton from August 2011. V. Reports A. City Librarian's-Report Highlights 1. Personnel- Geralyn will be honored for 20 years of service to the City of Burlingame at the Employee Service Award Luncheon. The Trustees hosted a staff luncheon to honor Maryam Refahi, staff artist, for her 44 Public Relations awards during her tenure at the library 2. Automated Materials Handling System (AMHS) 3M was selected by PLS as the vendor for the AMHS. Pat reviewed the drawings for the layout of the system with the Trustees. Trustee Corcoran suggested that the expected decrease in staff injuries due to the AMHS should be tracked and reported to the City Council. 3. Thin,Client - City Council approved the resolution allocating $71,000 for the project. 4. Bandwidth - a PLS task force has met to formulate a--plan to assess concerns with the current bandwidth being too slow to handle the volume of usage caused by technology products and programs. Foundation Report After a successful "Behind the Scenes" event, the Foundation will turn its attention to the-October book sale to'be field from October 18th to October 21 st. The book sale will be followed by the Children's Tea scheduled for December 2nd. VI. Unfinished Business A. Capital Campaign Task Force Committee Report Pat Nicholson has been recruited by the Foundation to be Chairperson of the Capital Campaign. B. Trustee Project - Living History-.Sandy Towle 1. Trustee Towle will work with Reference Librarian, Brad McCulley, on the Living History Project. Brad McCulley has applied for an Eureka Grant based on the Living History format. Brad and Sandy have spoken with members of the Historical Society and they are supportive of the project and already have a list of possible candidates,to be interviewed. 2. Edward Anders will be the subject of the first Living History program to be held October 15th in the Lane Room. Mr. Anders will relate his experiences as a young child in Latvia during the Holocost. Trustee Towle will oversee the filming of the event. C. Trustee Project - Newcomer's Report - Lisa Rosenthal The Trustees made'suggestions to the draft letter which will be included the newcomer's packet. In this letter, newcomers to the City of Burlingame and Town of Hillsborough will be advised of library services and programs. D. Millennium Project Pat Harding gave the Trustees a packet with the recent architectural drawings and photos of Library furnishings as it is now and examples of how it might look after the Millennium project is completed. It was suggested that for the teen room the Walnut Creek model, which had some computer counters with stools, might be considered. The Project Management Team will meet on October 2nd to focus on the relocation of departments on the upper level. VII. Adiournment The meeting was adjourned at 6:35pm.
