Excerpts from the letter addressed to the Librarian from Miss Marrick
in regard to her demotion was read and is here by transcribed:
"I can see your point about wanting a person getting my
salary to take more initiative; so I will accept the
reduction in grade and salary."

Harrison outlined the position of the librarian and explained
why Miss Larrick was retained at the end of the one year period
simply because at that time there were no other professional persons
! _ available. She explained that due to her weight and size there were
several tasks in her department which she did not perform even when
assigned, such as, the checking of lists and bibliographies of books
inorder to determine the holdings of the library.
','iiss Welbasky, the Assistant Librarian, was called in and she
outlined the problem in detail, expressing the view of the staff
which was in accord with those of the librarian.
The librarian stated that as the employment situation had
changed and that it was now easy to fill the vacancies in the pro-
fessional classification that it would be very undesirable to have
the occupant of a senior position who would not be able to actually
supervise the junior position intellectually and who would not rank
above them in responsibility.
After some discussion it was moved by Mr. Crosby and seconded
cy RIr. Burns that bliss Marrick be reduced from Senior Librarian to
Junior Librarian. The action to be effective August 1, 1955.
AD JOUR 22,NT:
The Meeting was adjourned by a motion by Mr. Burns and seconded by
Er. Crosby.
