The library institute at U.C.L.A. incorporated many of the features of a
graduate seminar, with major lectures on rolatod library subjects by leading.
authorities, followed by mriall discussion Troup% under capable ,Guidance,
considering in practical torris the premises of each lecture. Discussions
continued informally duril,., social Get-togethers at coffee breaks and dinner
hours.
There was compressed into three days subject matter which had been origin-
ally intended for a six wool, sur..or session. It was decided that more library
administrators viould be able to participate in the institute if it could be
concentrated in the shorter poriod of time, Attendance was limited to one
hundred librarians; more than this nunber wished to attend but some had to be
denied admittance when the quota was reached.
The theme of the institute was Library Administration; sore of the subjects
discussed included: staffing, personnel, moralo, budgets, library services,
booty collections, library government, and interlibrary cooperation.
GIFTS:
The library has boon the recipient of over ;,..300.00 worth of records from
the DarlinGame Lions Club. These are being processed and will soon be featured
both for the children and young people. A further report will be made at the
time they are available to the 1iblic.
