Idoody. lrUTES The minutes of the previous meeting of October 10, 1957 were read and approved.. BILLS On a motion by Mrs. Harrison and seconded by Mrs. Cohendet, bills in the amount of ::3,485.2e were ordered paid.. LIBRARSA.d'S REPORT The librariants report was read and accepted. Cohondet reported that she was installed as slice President of the Trustees? Section of the CIA, to take office January 1, 1958. She stated that she did not submit an expense account because of the fact that the item had not been previously bud;;;eted. _after some discussion, it was agreed that in the now bad. at rectiest that an item for trustee convention expense be included dlrs. arrisonstated that she would fully support I,rs. Cohendet in her activi es as vice-president elect of the trustees' section. She stated that the trustees moetir_g, �.as z sry informative and inforative and that it was greatly desirable that Gustees atten-d these conventions. The librarian stated that he felt that tho form az' convention proceedings was not as rewarding as previous conventions, a.lthou h he did profit by conversations uith some of those present. Cohendet stated that she had tallied to four 07-,10 rs oz the el0Eentary school board in regard to the 'acgvlsition of a branch site and tho..ght their attitude to be favorable, and was quite surprised when the librarian_ stated that Hr. White did not think trc.t o-I'S was their attitude. The librarian had a conversation with 11r. White in which tir. Ctliite stated t-at he dial not believe-the Elementary School Board mould be favorably inclined to grant the Library Board a site at this time, and that he thought it not advisable to force the issue; he furter stated that this was his personal opinion and that he cot,ld be iron,,-,. He`suggested that it night be possible for the library a:,o elementary school to conduct a joint library in a school constructed facility, and su gested that the librarian try to convince his Beard that such y.ot.ld be a good solution to the problem. t:_rs. Harrison stated that she believed that we should have a definite answer from the school board before proceeding in any other direction. It was moved by rlrs. Harrison, and seconded by Mr. Moody, that the ?a!re 2 - Yinutes Eovenber 25, 1057 secretary `.rite a letter to the Ller::entary School Board recluestin a joint meetinf- with the Elementary School Board. Book Distribution. The librarian stated that he had a conference with I>Ir. t"th�te concernir; the use of surplus books by the elementary school system. He stated_ that further study was being riven to the -problem with a special PTA library conr2ittee operating the prograri. Communications. A letter was received from the American Library Association addressed to rss. Cohendet regarding a convention planning committee to be activated in Chicago. 11r. Edwards stated that P:Ir. Cohendet might answer the letter to the effect that she would be glad to cooperate in any way but, that she would be unable to attend the planning, zgroup. NEW BUSINESS Source of I ind_s for Stack Extension. ?Firs. Harrison stated that for the past two years �,e have been faced with e.,treme overcrowding in the book stacks. She stated that vie should definitely ask for a bond issue for their constr-action. The librarian stated that he felt that there still was a chance for an increase in the library tai rate sufficient to build one floor of the stacks, and that he had requested an opinion through the `State Librarian of the Attorney ^en_eraal in regard to the lecality of the expenditure of money for building construction purposes derived from the library tax. However, he stated that definite le,is- lati-ve action to remove whatever ambiguity e<f>ists in the present law will, of necessity, be delayed until the 1,359 legislature; therefore, it may be desirable to submit the project to the voters. Mrs. Cohendet stated. that she felt similarly, as did '_''r. Iloody. firs. Cohendet moved that a letter be sent, over the signature of the board chairman:, requesting a bond issue in the amount of approximate1 60,000 to be placed on the April ballot;' seconded by PIrs.
