July 8, 1958
Trustees Present: Mrs. Harrison, Mrs. Cohendet, Pair. Crosby, Tr. Edwards, uTr. Moody.
MINUTES
The minutes of the previous meeting of June 17, 1958, were read and approved.
BILLS
On a motion by Vrs. Harrison, seconded by Mr. Edwards, bills in the amount of
$1,708.53 were ordered paid.
LIBRARIAN'S REPORT
The Librarians report was read and accepted.
MONTHLY FINANCIAL STATEMENT
The nancia statement was approved and placed on file.
OLD BuSIiYESS
Budget. Mrs. Cohendet and Mrs. Harrison reported on their meeting with the City Manager
in regard to the addition of a 10 cent tax for building of the stacks extension_. He
stated that as long as Mr. Xarmel held that power of the trustees to use the funds
derived from the library tax for building purposes was ambiguous he would not
recommend the additional tax, but that if due to more extensive search of the law
Mr. Karmel thought there would be a possibility that the courts would hold such a'
tax applicable to the erection of buildings, he would be inclined to view with favor
the addition of the tax. Pyr. Lechich stated that additional study was being given
to the library act, and he was optimistic of the possibility of a favorable decision.
--` Convention. The trustees will attend the library trustees section of the A.L.A.
convention in San Francisco, and also expect to attend the Friends of the Library
luncheon on Tuesday, July 15th. The Librarian and several members of the staff will
attend various meetings and that he was attending a pre-convention conference in
Berkeley.

BOarcTReorganization. Mrs. Harrison nominated Mrs. Cohendet president of the board
ofE-rusfees. :r. Moody moved the nomination be closed, seconded by i.ir. Edwards.
Mrs. Cohendet was declared elected. Mrs. Harrison nominated Mr. Moody for secretary,
seconded by P=Pr. Edwards, and unanimously declared secretary.
