T e minutes of the previous meeting of August 19, 1958, were read and approved.
BILLS
On a motion by ,;',r. Crosby, seconded by Iir. Edwards, bills in the amount of
81,374.29 were ordered paid.
LIB11 ARIAN'S REPORT
The Librarian's report was read and accepted.
TONTHLY FINANCIAL STAT141,Z-614T
The financial statement was approved and placed on file.
OID BUSI NESS
Budget. The librarian stated that the formal budget by the city has not been
received from the city hall, but that it is the same as we submitted with the exception
of the 4 percent increase in salaries.
Stack Extension. The librarian stated that Mr. Ka.rmel will begin action on the
cl�ariflcatic of the State law in regard to capital expenditures from the library
tax fund.
Branch Site. The librarian stated that „Ir. White would take up with the Elementary
School Board their approval or disapproval for the branch site as previously
designated on Truesdale Ave.
NEi'I BUSINESS
Fines and lees. After soric discussion it was moved by Pair. Moody, seconded by 1:r.
Edwards,
Edwards, that fines for all 14-day books be increased to 5 cents and that records
be increased to 10 cents per day after 7 days; that reserve book postcards be
increased to 8 cents per card or two for 15 cents.
It was moved by :.sir. Foody and seconded by Iir. Crosby that non-?resident teachers
who teach in Burl nar:.e schools Mould be allowed complimentary cards, this in
particular would apply to Bills High School.
Non-resident Use of the Library. The increased use by non-resident students and
others who do not have cards in the library was discussed. It was decided that
the library would_ institute a campaign of education to the residents of the
surrounding corarunities in the services and costs ofthe library to the citizens
of Barlinrgame that they may see the justification for the non-resident fee. it
was moved by Mr. Edwards and seconded by Fs. Moody that the chair proceed with
the campai�p_ of educati=on, and carried.
