Edwards, a.rd. carried, Patricia Ber`sing was appointed Junior Librarian starting January 1, 1959. There was a discussion on the report of the California Library Corxai ssion. It seemed to be the general opinion-that city libraries must remain under the control of the mznieipality; that State aid would be ill-advised; that cooperation on a level that already exists within this area can be developed and expanded; that the State Library should be developed to a point that it can more acer-lately and quickly fill the inter-library loan requirements of the smaller libraries; that the library standards, as developed by the ALA and the CLA, should be more cognizant of the services dashed by the general public; and studies should be made to determine how well a library is meeting community needs. In ogler words, hoer satisfactory is the service in a corrnunity that is library conscious or book conscious. The "Library,; 3oard"wi.s present as a body at the Commission HearinS, at the San Francisco Public Library. Per.
