Crosby, i'r. Edwards, Mr. Moody. MINUTES 7Anutes of the previous meeting of January 21, `1959, were read and approved. BILLS On motion by ;fir. Moody, seconded by Pair. Crosby, bills in the amount of ' 2,073.83 were ordered paid. LIBRARIAN'S REPORT T e Librarians report was read and accepted. MONTHLY FINANCIAL STATEMENT T e financial statemenE was approved and placed on file. 0M BUSINESS Stao"��xtension. The Librarian stated that as far as he was able to determine, t e necessary court action would take place in March. State Library Commission Survey?Act. After a brief discussion, it was moved by ..ir. Edwards ansecor__e y T . Moody, that our state legislators be advised that the trustees of the Burlingame Public Library oppose State Library Survey Act in its present form. Voice vote was 4 to 1. NE'%' BUSINESS Friends 'ofthe Library. There is to be a meeting February 27th and all are urged to attend. _ Change of .,Meetinpg� Time. After a brief discussion it was decided to leave the meeting time as it is at present. Sutro Library. After a discussion of the proposed shift of the Sutro Library from nye 'State Library to the :University of California, it was moved by Mr. Edwards, and seconded by .;r. Moody, that "the Library Board opposes the Senate Dill 656, introduced by Senator Donnelly, which proposes to transfer the Sutro Library to the University of California." The Librarian was instructed to send copies of this action to the parties concerned. ADJOURNME On a motion by Mr. Crosby, seconded by Mr. Edwards, the meeting adjourned. Respectfully submitted, G. P. Lechich Clerk of the Board LIBRARIAN°S REPORT �.. MARCH 1959 CIRCULATION The circulation increased 1 percent over that of February 1958. The small increase was no doubt due to the double holldaay and to the unusually delightful spring weather. MEETINGS ATTENDE#:D The librarian attended a lecture at the 'University of California Library School, on personnel probl s and supervision by the Director of Persannel of the New York Public Library, Mr. Hel n. NEWSNOTES FROM THE JUVENILE DEPARTMENT Classes from elew-*ntarg schools have visited the library lately. The kindergarten and first grades of Pershing School, Mrs. Elaine McCrae teacher, came March 3, 1959• The second grads class of Mrs. Tell and the second grade class of Mrs. Steele from Washington Schi�*l visited on March 4. 1959. These Washington School pupils had prepared questions to ask Mrs. Foltz about the library and how books are published. The display of press sheets of the book The Pointed Brush by Patricia Miles Martin has drawn ouch Interest. A request from a sc..10 li rarian rcom the North Hillsborough school to bring 6w classes to view the exhibit and visit the library was received. The Children's Librcrian explained that it would be alright if the teachers told the classes beforehand the mules for non-resident borrowers. So, on March 6, 1951 the second grade classes of Miss Graham and Mrs. Goodell of forth Hillabore►ugh School were received. Mrs. Martin came and was every gracious to answer the questions the classes put to her about how she csne to write that story, etc. She presented each class with a book of its own. This was a very enjoyable meeting. Mrs. Foltz attended the vanthly meeting or the Association of t;hildrenas Librarians of Northern California at the San Francisco Public Library on March 12, 1959* She had three new juve&i le mks to review for the meeting. She was appointed head of the nominating committee of the group to present a slate of officers at the next meeting In April. Plans for a Soler System Sumwr Reading ClT ' '; •ve been completed. All materials for this are being paid for by the Lions Club.
