OLD BUS1i-SS
Sta.c.'&-s Extension. As stated in the Librarian's Report, there is a chance that the

Children's Librarian_. The Librarian reported that due to our inability to get a
replacem, ent su fi ac eptly experienced, .1 rs. Foltz has agreed to continue until such
time as a replacement was found. The Board stated that they wish to express their
appreciation for her decision.
Staff Handbook. The Librarian stated that the Staff Handbook should have been
(
completed by this time but that very little work was done on its or?anization and
compilation. Part of this Handbook will consist of certain policy statements, perhaps
the most important of which is the book selection_ policy. The Librarian submitted
r
for farther stud a tentative book selection policy based on the work of Lois Loolv:yk,
Monterey County Librarian. After considerable discussion it was decided, upon a
motion by Trustee .foody seconded by Trustee Edwards, that a. committee be formed to
study the minutes and compile a chronolo Pieal list of resolutions of policy. Trustee
Harrison stated that she did not feel th-at it was worth the effort involved due to
the fact that the L.brarian was always called upon to answer any questions of policy,
and that it was possible for any member of the Board to per-Ise the minutes and find
out about staten:er_ts made in the past. Trustee Harrison also stated that she felt
that a considerable amount of administrative policies were unwritten and simply had
been acceded to by Board agreement and discussed unofficially. Pres. Cohendet and
Trustee Edwards stated that they believed it would be very advisable to have policy
discussions of Vne, iJas t compiled. Trustee Moody agreed that this would be a rood
procedure. Trusibee Crosby stated that he was in ap~reement with this but he felt in
.
no ay should this action serve as a criticisco of the Librarian's past actions.
Trustee Harrison stated that she agreed with Trustee Crosby as did the others. The
Librarian stated that very few librarians to his knowledge have compiled policy
t
staements, that BOard decisions and discussions Over the years made the policies as
they are at present'.
