Cohendet, Trustee Harrison, Trustee Crosby, Trustee Edwards, Trustee Moody. MINUTES M nu es of the previous meeting of Dec. 15, 1959, were read and approved. BILIS Zn a motion by Trustee Crosby, seconded by Trustee Harrison, bills in the amount of X3,419.84 were ordered paid. LIBRARIAN'S REPORT The Librariants report was read and accepted. MONTHLY FINANCIAL STATEMENT T e financlai stMment was approved and placed on file. OLD BUSINESS Stac2s` pension. The Librarian explained that funds derived from unexpended building Tu-nds (C-BO) o $998.50, and with the surplus 1958-59 tax reserve in the amount of $1,998.00, total $2,996.50, could be used for the installation of two bays of stacks on the upper (second floor) and 439 shelves. He stated that the full upper floor could be completed and all necessary shelving for present needs, for an expenditure of $5,433. He also stated that an amount of $480 for 160 extra shelves would be desirable, but this could be purchased out of next year's budget. This would allow an expansion of the stacks in such a way that no major shift would take place for several years. If the first suggestion is followed, Plan 1, there would be two moves necessary and no use made of the basement stacks. After some discussion, it was moved by Trustee Moody that vie request the City Manager's opinion as to whether or not we should proceed with Plan No. 2 as presented in the Librarian's statistical analysis, and that this analysis be made a part of the board meeting minutes of January 19, 1960. Seconded by Trustee Crosby and passed. CO1vRJJ NI CATI ONS The Librarian stated that he had received a communication from the Carnegie Tech. Library School stating they had forwarded information about a children's Librarian that might be favorable. The daily average was 1,022, the fourth time since: Janurry 1, 1959 that over 1,000 books were Checked out per day. NEW ADDITION The stactcz an the tipper floor should be Installed aad the electrical work completed by the middle of March. It is hoped that we can start moving books by the end of this uNiak, Fzbruary 200, Into the reference arca and the main floor stacks addition. MEETINGS ArfLNDED The Librarian attended the meeting of the committee for National Library Week at the San Francisco Public Library. National Library Week, April 3rd to 9th, should be an excellent opportunity for dedicating the new reference and stacks addition at an Open House, NEWSNOTES OF JUVENILE DEPT. Mrs. maricn Garthwaite, Childreags Librirlon of San Mateo County Library, was guest story-teller for the 5th grade class of Coolidge School which regularly visits the Easton Branch Library every other Friday for Instruction In library use. February 5th was a rainy day, and the class could not walk to the library. Mrs. Bergaing and Mrs. Garthwaite went to the Coqlidge School Instead. Mrs. Foltz: attanded the monthly meeting of the Children0a Librarians of Northern .-alifor0a at San Francisco Public Library February 11, 1960. Mrs. Patricia Miles Martin has a new book to be published in March, Chandler ChiRmunkO., Flying Lesson, by Abingdon Press. The editor of Abingdon has graciously sentsomerof the origPi_ayl-art u-3rh for the book to t%-e Burlingame Library for a display.
