BURLINGAIE PUBLIC LIBRARY BOARD
MARCH 15, 1960
Trustees Present; Pres. Cohendet, Trustee Harrison, Trustee Edwards
Trustees Absent; Trustee Nloody, Trustee Crosby
Due to Trustee Harrison's inability to attend the meeting at the
library, the members present adjourned to her home.
MINUTES
minutes of the previous meeting of February 16, 1960 were read and approved.
BILLS
On a motion by Trustee Edwards, seconded by Trustee Harrison, bills in the amount
of $30,620.88 were ordered paid.
LIBRARIANtS REPORT
The Librariants report was read and accepted.
MONTHLY FINANCIAL STATEMTT
The financial statement was approved and placed on file.
OLD BUSINESS
The Librarian discussed various aspects of moving problems and stated that he felt
that the changes would increase the efficiency of the circulation and reference
desks, although until certain staff changes were made, this would not be too
{ apparent. C n
COt,11i1UNICA^lIONS
A letter eras received from Col. Norberg in which he stated that as supervising
Architect of the recently completed building additions, to the best of his
knowledge and belief= these additions, with the exception of the authorized changes,
had been constructed in accordance with the plans, specifications and details
for this work, prepared by him and previously approved by the Board. Mr. Edwards
did not think this letter adequate, and stated that he would submit a more appro-
priate letter for Col. Norberg's signature.
NEW BUSINESS
Governor ts 7onference. Mrs. Cohendet stated that she and Mr. Moody were planning
to attend the Governorts Conference on Public Library Service April 6-7-8, 1960.
The Librarian stated that he had also received an invitation and would attend if
possible at least one day.
Golden Gate Section of CLA Meeting. The Librarian stated thatseveralmembers of
the library staff were planning to attend this meeting at the University of San
Francisco April 2nd. The Board agreed that it was a 'good thing for those who could
o, to try to attend.

CIRCULATION
The circulation increased 11.3"'_• over that of Mares 1959- V, continued to circulate
over 1,000 books per day.
The registrations have Inc aced from 10,592 in June 1959 to 11,167 in March 31, 1960
or 575 - a 5,11 increase, It is thus still apparent that our circulation K `. vreasing
at a greater sacs: than our registrations, and fat levying the pattern set for u..ay years,
MOVING OPERATIONS
The occupancy of the new stacks and ?eference rooms is almost completed. Shifting
of the reserve collection to he cage—in arsa is under way. There still remains
shifting of the unbound magazines and sumn ether Knox changes. In all, over 115,000
books will have been shifted,
MEETINGS ATTENDED
Mrs. Levering, Mion Marrack and Hr. Wickliffe, and Trustee Mrs. Cohendet attended
the Golden Cate District meeting.
Mrs. Cohendet, Mr. Lechich and Mr. Ybody :attended the Governor's Conference in
Racramento on Public Library Service.
Mr. Wickliffe attended the meetings of the Public Library Executives of Central
California in San Francisco. The two.day Conference was concerned with library services
to young ,adults.
NEi+4SNOTES FROM THE JUVENILE DEPARTMENT
Mrs. Bergsing at Easton. Drive Branch continues to have success with her training
classes in use of the library. Classes from Pershing School and from Roosevelt School
attend every other week*
Mrs. Foltz has had an addition of sevaras sections of book shelves in the Main LibraT^y
Juvenile Section, This made it necessary for her to shift all the books in the departmento
quite a few Juvenile fictlo:a books were removed from the shelves and put in extra shelves
In the adult basement.
Mrs. Foltz attended the Book Review melting of the Association of Children0a Librarians
of Northern California at the Sin Francisco Public Library April 14. She had 3 new juvenile
books to review.
Two second grade clazzes from Washia3 on School via#ted the Library March 18, and the
first and second grade cl ases from Pershing School visited April 6th.
