experienced Children's Librarian has not been obtained and Mrs. Foltz, the present
Children's Librarian, does not wish to continue on a full time basis. He stated
that he has inquired at various library schools for a Junior Librarian graduate of
this yeasts class, who might be interested, and has obtained the application of a
Children's Librarian of Japanese extraction who was rated as third in her graduation
class at University of California. He stated that if we obtained her it would be
necessary to have a more experienced person to supervise her for some time. Mrs.
Foltz has agreed to do this. Therefore, it was necessary to set up a new position
of Junior Librarian for children and to alter the present Childrents Librariants
status to part time. He stated that a Young Adult Librarian might be hired in
event the Children's Librarian resigned.

LIBRARIANeS REPORT
JUNE 1960
CIRCULATION
The May circulation is 11.5' greater than the same month of 1959. The addition of
language records, gift of the Lions Club, was w4inly responsible for the 6Vr increase
in record circulation for May over the same month last year.
REORGANIZATION OF MAGAZINE STORAGE
Many of the unbound periodicals in the old storage area have been sent to the
bindery. Unbound issues covering a ten year period have been transferred to the closed
stack area on the main floor. The remaining unbound magazines will be scrted for
possible binding, or transferred to other institutions who may need them, or stored
in a compact form in order to make the shelf space available for the sorting and disposal
of gift books. We feel that the older magazines and journals, although little used,
should be preserved, in order to fora the nucleus of a larger library which some day
will exist in this area if we are to have a population of over a million in the county.
NEWSNOTES OF JUVENILE DEPARTMENT
Mrs. Foltz visited the Mothers Club at Pershing School May 24th to interest the
mothers in having their children join the American Flag Sunny Reading Club. She
showed some new booke and book lists end answered questions.
Mrs. Bergsing went to Our Lady of Angels School to inform them of plans for the
Summer Reading Club. All other schools were informed and notices sent to the classroomso
Mrs. Foltz attended the meeting of the Association of Childrenas Librarians of
Northern California at the San Francisco Public Library June 9. She had three new
spring juvenile books to review.
Good publicity on the American Flag Reading Club was given the library in both the
Burlingame Advance and the San Mateo Times newspapers. Both papers printed an article
and had their staff photographer cora to the library and take a pieturd. The results of
the publicity was gratifying, as many boys and girls have joined the Club at both the
Main Library and Easton Drive Branch after ,crit the first few days of registering.
Each member will receive a different American flag each week as they read and report on
two books. There are twelve different American flags,; starting with 1775 and ending with
the 50 star flag of 1960.
Respectfully submitted,
Gecrge Paul Lechich
