BURLINGAME PUBLIC LIBRARY BOARD

MINUTES
Minutes of the previous meeting_; of October 18, 1960, were read and approved as
corrected.
BILLS
On a motion by Trustee Crosby, seconded by Trustee Edwards, bills in the amount
of $4,657,72 were ordered paid.
LIBRARIAN'S REPORT
The Librarian's report was read and accepted.
MONTHLY FINANCIAL STATEMENT
The financial statement was approved and placed on file.
OLD BUSINESS
Safe. The librarian stated that a safe has been offered from a local source.
He said that he would determine its suitability for purchase.
Non-resident dues. The librarian stated he had contacted the San Mateo Librarian,
who in turn discussed with her board the possible increase in non-resident dues.
They agreed with the views of the Burlingame Board that the simultaneous announce-
ment of an increase to $10.00 would be a good policy. After some discussion of
Increased library costs, a motion was made by Trustee Moody, seconded by Trustee
Crosby, that the fee for non-residents will be $10.00 beginning January 1, 1961.
Motion carried.
COMMUNICATIONS
_ A letter was received from the Civil Service Commission stating that Miss Clara
L. Palovic had passed the civil service examination for Senior Librarian and had
been placed No. l on the eligible list.
NEW BUSINESS
Appointment of Senior Librarian (Lhildren's Librarian). It was moved by Trustee
Crosby, seconded by Trustee Edwards, that Miss Clara Palovic be appointed Senior
Librarian, effective December 1, 1960. Motion carried.
Art Exhibit. President Cohendet announced that the Friends of the Library are
sponsoring an art exhibit of the works of Nancy McRae on Sunday, November 27.

The largest proportional. increase is in the children's circulation.
This reflects the increased activity in the childrents dennrtment, and
I'lliss Palovic, the Ohildrents Libreri.an, is to be cum-)lir..iented on her efforts.
The Branch circulation also sha.�rs e deci_dec? increase.

The Librarian attended the Peninsula Library meotiing at :pan Bruno, and
sited San Frencisco State College's nev library additions .

For Book ',leek the Children's Librarian set up the Gladys English Tlemorial
Exhibit, :,,.,hieh the Reference Librarian had requested last swTraer; sent notices
to the newspapers concerning Boost " eek activities; prepared a booklist of
classics snd other books for young adults for both libreries; booklets "Growing
Ura ' ith Books" and "Growing Up With Science Books" ti^fere distributed to library
patrons; and special Book .eek bookmar-ks wore made available to the patrons.
Hiss Palovic is continuing Story Iiour with 30 to !rO children attending
each Saturday.
The Hoover end '; ashington 5th grades visited the library in 7oveiaber. The
Childrents Librarian talked about the Readerts Guide, Devrey Decimal System, and
organization of the children's department.
The Deaf Group of 7 children also made their first exciting trip to
the library.
