LIBRARIANOS REPORT

CIRCULATION
The month of December showed a very slight gain over the month of December 1960
about .1 of 1°'. This was made possible by an increase in the periodical circulation of
267 or 21091% and an increase in the record circulation of 74, or 15.9'.
CHRISTMAS DECORATIONS
Through the kindness of the Carden Study Club, the library exhibited a Christmas decor
far surpassing any previous attempts. Many excellent dried arrangements were distributed
throughout the building, and a beautiful large wreath was hung in the big window. A small
branch of pine was displayed against the wall in the Childrengs Room and decorated very
effectively as a tree. Many complimentary comments were made by the patrons.
STATE SALARY SURVEY
The representative sent out by the California State Personnel Board to conduct a
salary survey of the city, as requested by the City Council, interviewed various members
of the staff and discussed their job description forms which they had previously filled out.
"'he final report has not yet been submitted.
FRIENDS OF THE LIBRARY
On January 9th, the Burlingame Friends of the Library heard Mrs. Woods Giberson review
the new novel by Hortense Calisher, "False Entry", Mrs. Giberson whose first novel, "The
Echoing Wave", was published in 1960, gave her impressions, as a writer, of the Calisher
book, tailing attention to its virtues as well as to its defects. An audience of about 30
heard the review after a coffee-hour preceeding Mrs. Gibersones talk. This was the third
of a series of three monthly morning book-talk meetings sponsored by the Friends group.
Plans for future meetings were discussed, and announcements will be made locally when
definite programs and dates have been made.
Respectfully submitted,
George Paul Lechich
Librarian
