BURLINGAME PUBLIC LIBRARY BOARD
April 17, 1962
Trustee Present: Trustee Harrison, Trustee Cohendet, Trustee Moody, Trustee Crosby.
Guests: Ex-library Trustee Edwards and Councilman Mrs. Johnson.
MINUTES: Minutes of the previous meeting of March 20, 1962 were read and approved.
BILLS
On a motion by Mrs.. Cohendet, seconded by Mr. Crosby, bills in the amount of $3,344.04
were ordered paid.
OLD BUSINESS
Discussiono quiet in the library. There was an extended discussion on the mainten-
ance of a quiet atmosphere in the library. Mrs. Harrison stated that she had received
three complaints that the noise level was too high. Mr. Moody expressed the feeling that
some effort should be made to keep the rooms quieter than they probably are. After
considerable discussion, in which all participated, it was suggested by the Chairman that
some of the Board members come to the library some evening and observe the actual condi-
tions. Any action was tabled until the next meeting.
Non-Resident Fees and Duplicate Non-Resident Cards. After some discussion, in which
it was expressed that the fee should be raised, any action was tabled until the next
meeting.
Irene Smith Room. It was moved by Mrs. Harrison, seconded by Mr. Crosby, that the small
Reading Room downstairs be designated as the Irene Smith Room.
COMMUNICATIONS

The Secretary of the Library Board stated that a letter had been written by Mrs. Harrison
to Mr. Edwards, and it was also suggested that a letter be sent to Mr. Crosby, congratu-
lating him on his election to the City Council and expressing appreciation for his work
on the Library Board.
NEW BUSINESS
Budget. The budget as prepared by the Librarian was studied and the idea of a reserve
building fund was approved. On a motion by Mrs. Cohendet, seconded by Mrs. Harrison,
the budget as submitted was accepted for presentation to the City Manager and City Council.
The Chairman expressed his thanks for the attendance of Mr. Edwards and Mrs. Johnson.
