OLD BUSINESS
Disposition of the Building Next Door. Mr. Moody brought up the fact that the Council
was in the midst of their hearings on the parking district and that some decision should
be forthcoming soon. After some discussion it was agreed that little could be done until
the parking situation is settled.
Salaries. The Librarian presented the comparative salary schedule based to a large extent
on the same cities as used by the State Salary Survey. After a brief discussion the Librarian
was requested to present, in tabular form so that comparisons could be readily made,
Burlingame's last year's salary, present salary and salary requested. On a motion by Mrs.
Harrison, seconded by Mr. DeMartini, the salary question is to be delayed until an adjourned
meeting is held Monday, September 24, 1962.

MINUTES OF THE ADJOURNED MEETING
OF THE
BURLINGAME PUBLIC LIBRARY BOARD
September 24, 1962
Trustees Present: President Moody, Trustee Cohendet, Trustee Harrison, Trustee Lynes,
Trustee DeMartini.
Trustees Absent: None
OLD BUSINESS
Salaries. The Librarian presented a statistical tabulation of the salary situation in
the library. It contained two tables showing in a slightly different arrangement the
past, present and requested salaries.
He also called attention to the tabulation presented at the last Board meeting
based upon the form used in the "Classification and Salary Survey" prepared by the State
Personnel Service for the city. He stated that he had used present salaries, not last year's
as used in the Personnel Board's table. In an endeavor to make up for the fact that out
of the fifteen libraries listed by the Personnel Survey only data for seven libraries
was given, he included four somewhat comparable libraries not listed by the survey.
After some discussion in regard to the difficulty in hiring and retaining professional
employees, who are in short supply throughout the United States, the Board expressed its
unanimous hope that the City Council might take action to improve the present salary
situation at the Burlingame Library.
NEW BUSINESS
Change of meeting. It was moved by Mr. Lynes, seconded by Mr. DeMartini, that the
Library Board meet on the 3rd Monday of each month. Motion carried.
ADJOURNMENT
On a motion by Mr. DeMartini, seconded by Mrs. Cohendet, the meeting adjourned.
Res ectfully submitted,

Ahtetofore, time lost due to illnes of less than four hours per day
has not been charged against accumulated sick leave. In order to remedy
this situation, it is deemed advisable by the City Manager, City Clgrk
and City Treasurer that such time be recorded and deducted whenever the
accumulated amount exceeds 1/2 day per annum.
This would involve a modification of the "Civil Service Commission,
City of Burlingame, Rules and Regulations as Read and Adopted 17th April,
1961%" Rule XIV.--Leaves of Absence, Section 2---Sick and Disability
Leaves, Paragraph F--Use of Sick Leave, to readt The minimum period
for charging sick leave shall be the half day. If an employee is absent
because of sick leave reasons for the major portion of a half day, a
half shall be charged against his sick leave accumulation. If less than
1/2 day, said time shall be recorded and deducted when ever the accumulated
amount totals 1/2 day. No employee shall be allowed sick-leave pay for
time off due to illness for days which are not part of the regular normal
work week of such employee.
