Trustees Absent: Trustee Harrison. MINUTES 111nu es of the previous meeting of P.larch 13, 1963, were read and approved. BILLS On a motion by Trustee Dellartini, seconded by Trustee Lynes, bills in the amount of 3,263. 37 were ordered paid. LIBRARIANTS R-SPORT E., D AidYMAL BUDGET REPORT e general o fact vas aria parrorriance -statement of the Tentative Budget 1963-04 was read and discussed. Trustee cloody stated that lie believed it should be submitted to the newspapers. Other members of the Board concurred. OLD BUSINESS Brane Si e. After some discussion, it was agreed that Trustee Lynes and Trustee ;Moody would meet with Dr. Cory of the California Teachers{ Association and continue the discussion for the proposed Branch on the CTA site. Bud'r*et. A review of the present Reserve Fund was discussed, and the possibility for t e immediate removal of the building on the adjacent property was considered, and the possibility of parking under the proposed extension of the library, was briefly reviewed. It was moved by Trustee Lynes, seconded by Trustee De'Martini, that the Library Board request that an additional ten cents be added to the present tax rate in order to increase the total Reserve Fund to an amount to partially help pay for any e,tens_on that may be made. 1=4- BUSINESS Hea n�nsurance. The Librarian stated that Miss Twisselman, our former page, who has been appointed library aide by the Board with the approval of the Civil Service Commission and the City ?:tanager, be allowed to receive the benefits of the city health insurance prog-ram. The Librarian stated that the City `tanager believed that this would be feasible with the approval of the Library Board. On a motion by Trustee Lynes, seconded by Trustee De.artini, it was moved that liliss 11wisselman be granted the right to come under the city health and insurance program. Dedication of Reference Room. Trustee Cohendet stated that the Reference Room would be dedicated on Sunday, April 21st at 1 o'clock, and that The Friends would serve tea. However, last year April =4as 1 percent under April 1961, so a true picture In relation to the total yearly circulation percentage would probably be closer to 11 percent. RfII STRATI ONS There .are 463 more card holders than at this time last year, thus we are more than keeping up with the population growth. This is entirely limited to adult patrons, as th-a nutiber of children holding cards in April 1962 was 2,976, and this year it is 2,943. However, these children are reading r,556 books as against 70593 books, or 12.7 percent more then in April 1962. The elementary school system has a slightly *mTler enrollment this ,eag, which probably accounts for the loss in childrenes regia® trntionso . NOT,,-.*t, FROM T HE CHILDREN'S RCU4 The Childrenes Room went all out in celebration of National Library 'leek, April �-- 21-27. Two first grade classes from Washington School and the :an Mateo Congregational Church Nursery School visited the library for a special stcW hour each, and browsing. A live Guinea pig was borrowed from the Junior Museum and displayed at all our story hours that week while "The Guinea Piggs Tail" woes told* Saturday afternoon there was a movies Program for children. Four films of childrengs books were borrowed from the San Jose Librarf and run by Herb White on his projector, Newspaper advertising and library posters brought an attendance of 35 children* The 4th-5th grade class from Coolidge School is continuing to visit the Branch every other week for catalog instruction. The 'Main story hour was discontinue:.', for the suttiDer, bece-u s of prior attvidanee; but the Br: ch and pre--=schv"l etay hours are still drawing a good response* Zn the Main ChildrenRs Room there is a series of "Californiads 14 historic Flags" on the bulletin boards, aad the Tranch bulletins are decorated with birds and butter- flies. The Branch also has P� table esspiay of Newbery books; and Main has a case >tilbit of mechanical toys with metchirg books. Mr's. Bergsing and Airs. Terpay attended the May meeting of CLA.
