Respectfully submitted, George Paul Lechich - Clerk of the Board August 20, 1963 Civil Service Commission City Hall Burlingame, Calif. Gentlemen: The Library Board of the Burlingame Public Library respectfully request that an examination be held as soon as possible for the position of Senior Librarian. Sincerely, George Paul Lechich Librarian GPL:s L IB R A R,I A I-19 S REJ-))I-C,, August 19, 19(13 C11CMATION The circulation increased 0.851,' ever the Lionth of July$ 19k)3. ilart of the cause of the low percentage of increase can be attributed to a smaller reading club group at the wain Library. This can be attributed to the fact that St. Catherine's did not distribute -our announcements nor was the Librarian periaittad to speak to the classes as has been the case in the past. -Last year there was approxiiAately IUO children registered from St. Catherine's; this year, there are only, 5o. On the other hand, Our Lady of ,ingel s School cooperated to the fullest extent and of those registered are from that school; We hoi)e to reniedy this situation next year. JE'ETINGS iXTEND-ED The Librarian attended 3 City Council laeetingp. As noted in the children®s Room lte )ort, Ars. llergrsing attended two meetings in Berkeley and Ars. Teri)ay attended three weetings in Berkeley. L Lhqr,(Y!Ln-_§Lttem -a Ox?-Lard. The Librarian visited the Oxnard Public Library and dis- cussed the Dickman Charging System, with Miss Railie Uetchen, the Librarian. She states the system has been in use for ny years ars and showed me one of the original charging machines which is still in use and has never needed any repair. Liss Retchen believes the charging M process is tuore speedy than the Gayrlord and dzeidedly superior to hand staniping and numbering. They have recently riovo-d into a much lar,,,Yer library and have incorporated two of the charging machines into the now desk. She believes the old style Ii.iachine to be superior to the ne-ioi modified one, but that possibly comeo 7er4oeking with the old one for over twenty years. After noting the complete satisfaction with this system, the Librarian recoimaends that its adoption by the Burlingamc Public Library is desirable. gI.[LDIUNtS_IIU0,%I There are over 400 children in the Spelunker heading Club, more than half of whom we expect to finish their 20 books. Plans for the party on August 24th are well-advanced. The Pre-S-chool Story flour was dropped at the end of July to give everyone, children and staff, • vacation. By popular request, it will be restmaed in the fall after school begins. The Branch has completed inventory and weeding of the juvenile fiction collection, and • replaceuent fiction order for '=ranch and ;lain has been compiled. The original art work for 'Gary Jane Foltz93 boah, TUCIIINOS MYAN TILL-ASUIL13, is an display in the case in the adult reading room and on the wall of the childrens room. Irs. 11ergsing and Ars. Torphy attended several sessions of the Staposithra on Excellence in Children's Literature at the University of Califorria in Berkeley. The Sy-illposimii brought speakers on various aspects and fields of childxon°s literature— writers, publishers, illustrators, poets.
