Trustees Absent: Trustee Cohendet, Trustee Lynes. MINUTES Minutes of the previous meeting of August 19, 1963 were read and accepted. BILLS On ,a motion by Trustee DeMartini, seconded by Trustee Harrison, bills in the amount of $2,64.1.96 were ordered paid. LIBRARIAN'S REPORT The Librarian's report was read and accepted. As an extension of his remarks in the report, concerning the effect of the passage of the State Aid Bill, the Librarian read the minutes of the meeting on Sept. 11th of the library executives of San Mateo County. After considerable discussion, it was agreed by all that any agreements entered into be perused carefully in order to protect our present in- dependent status. MONTHLY FINANCIAL STATEMENT The financial statement was approved and placed on file. OLD BUSINESS Charging Machines. The Librarian explained that the representative of the Dickman Charging Machines stated that it may be possible to use an addressograph plate in place of the number, and that Monterey County is working on this idea. He is getting more information and will make a further report. ADJOURNMENT It was moved by Trustee Harrison and seconded by Trustee DeMartini that the meeting be adjourned. This was due to the fact that school started one week later than &act year and San Hateo Jsnior College started two weeks later than in September, 1902. The total circulation was 25, 279 which is still ahead of 1961 when the circulation was 24, 921. The daily average for the past four years is as follows: Sel)tember, 1900 – 91;9 " 1901 — 999 " 19u2 – 1, 078 ee 1903 – 10 0149 The daily average for the system for the year 1902-63 was 1, 157 volumes. Neetings: The Public Library Executives of Central California in %rkeley discussed the report "planning for public library s:rvice in the nine San Francisco Bay Area counties by Ed Ifight." Monthly Chamber of Commerce INieet.ing: There was a discussion of the San Fraacisco Public Dindi:g Problems and a visit to and an explanation of their book proceezing departuent. The Peninsula Library Association of San Iateo disc-2ssed various cooperative activities of member libraries. But, in addition, there has be�-�n a gratifying, growth in the nambers of adults making use of reference services: some with precise quest+oas for iaformation, such as, how to build a carport, or the date& for the construction of the Crystal Spri ,gs Dari; otheas with less definite requests for aid in selecting; an interesting historical novel, or a relaxing book of humors Work is progressing &atisfsetorily on the reorganization of the collection of newspaper clippings pertaining to the Burlingame Public Library. A gift of $8.50 was made by one of our regular patrons for a yeaA subscription to "Ramparts", a new periodical (pr.alished in rdenlo Park) which has already received national recognition. CHILD ' _s S R The three stony hours were re3umed the first week of October — regular story hours at ,Main and the Br&r-cIi and a story hour at the Main Library. The ADVANCE and WE SAN MTOD TRIES published our announcement of the story hours. Saint Paul°a Nursery School brought a . . « to the library for a story program and browsAng. The bulletin boards have been decorated for Ilalloweea, and the display case is featuring with stuffed animals on loan from Toy Town. Mrs. aergaing attended a luncheon at Are. Pat Aart;nos honoring Marie Puecinelli and her first published children®s book JUNGLE IN THE SM ,-ire. Bergsing and Ars.
