BILLS On a motion by Trustee DeMartini, seconded by Trustee Lynes, the bills in the amount of 5r5,841.8'7 were ordered paid. LIBRARIAN'S REPORT The Librarianrs report was read and accepted. MONTHLY FINANCIAL STATEtiiIENT The financial statement was approved and placed on file. OLD BUSIEESS t arg ng ASS, ines. The Librarian reported that the charging machines were on order. Planning; Grant. After a brief discussion in which it was brought out again that nt`e Hbr`ary would be under no obligation to join a system or accept state aid, the Librarian submitted the Resolution to Permit Joint Application with Other Libraries in San Mateo County for a Planning Grant under the Provisions of A.B.59 the Public Library Service Act. It was moved by Trustee DeMartini, seconded by Trustee Lynes, that the Resolution be read by title only. On a voice vote: Ayes - Trustee Lynes, Trustee Cohendet, Trustee DeMartini, Trustee Harrison; Noes - none; Absent - Trustee Moody. Co ming Machine. The Librarian stated that the copying machine was now in service and tat the students seemed to be enthusiastic in its use. Trustee DeMartini stated that his children had. been using the machine and were most enthusiastic. The Librarian stated again that he hoped that the mutilation of books and magazines would be considerably reduced by the installation of this machine. COMPIUNIC ATI ON S A letter was received from Aline Lorenz thanking the Library Board for the flowers sent to the funeral of her husband, Dr. Joseph Lorenz. NEW BUSINESS CEA. After a brief discussion, it was agreed by the Board that those who wish to mend should send in their own registrations and submit bills for payment. However, the daily average circulation was one greater than for November. 1962 11131 over 11600 In light of the increase in registration, it is hard to account for the present static circulation. There were further discussion of library cooperation and development of library systems with Mrs. Batton, Assistant State Librarian, lead— ing the group. The Librarian and several other staff members attended the California Library Association Convention in San Francisco. The Librarian attended several committee meetings concerned with the applica— tion for a planning grant, and also attended the PLA meeting at the new San Carlos �'ublic Library. CHILDR,E?N°S ROOM On 'November 16th, 36 children attended our Book Week movie program. Three films were borrowed from the San Jose Library and shown by herb tihite on his ;projector. On November lrth, Mrs. Terpay gave a talk to the Wise Group (faculty wives) of dills high School on the subject, "Children's Books for Christmas Giving." The Carolyn Oakes Nursery School brought a class to the Library for a story and browsing. The 4th, 5th, and oth grades of Roosevelt School are visiting the Branch for instruction in the use of the Library and the catalog,. Lach class will make two visits. Both the Main Children°s Itoom and the I3ranch are decorated for Christmas; in the display case there is a collection of model trains loaned by Geoff Cullison, a patron. A tree—trimming party was held on Wednesday, December 11th at the Branch and on Friday, December 13th at the ;lain Library. The children came to make ornaments and to attend the Christmas story hour and sing carols. The Lions Club provided trees, materials for the ornaments, and candy canes for all children. Both the Advance and San .Mateo Times published our news release and sent photographers to the `— {Iain tree trimming. Ninety-five children attended the Branch party, and 65 at aloin. Candy canes from the Lions Club will be given the preschoolers at their Christmas Story '[our on December 16th. A number of staff members attended meetings of the California Library Assn.
