June 16, 2009
I. Call to Order
President Brock called the meeting to order at 5:45pm.
II. Roll Call
Trustees Present: Nancy Brock, Deborah Griffith,
Pat Toft, Sandy Towle
Trustee Absent: Katie McCormack
Staff Present: Al Escoffier, City Librarian
Sidney Poland, Recorder
Public: Bob Tessler
III. Minutes of the May 12, 2009 Trustee Meeting
The Trustees unanimously approved the May 12, 2009 minutes. M/S/C

IV. Correspondence and Attachments
Circulation for May at the main library was 51,363 representing a
6.11% increase over May 2008 circulation of 48,404. Easton's May
circulation of 5,825 showed a 10% decrease from May's 2007 total of
6,487. This 10% decrease in circulation coincides with the 10%
reduction in open hours effective May 1, 2009.

Bob Tessler, a Hillsborough resident, attended the meeting.
VI. Reports
A. City Librarian's Report — Highlights
1. ALA PR Award — The American Library Association presented
the Burlingame Library with its 39th PR award for the 2008 adult
summer reading program entitled "Literary Tastings @
Burlingame Library". Maryam Refahi, our graphic artist, and
Linda Santo, program director, worked together to make this
event so successful.

2. Summer Reading Programs - Summer Story Times for adults
and children will run from June 15th to July 31 st. Children's
reading programs are as follows: 1) "Be Creative @ Your Library"
grades 1-5: 2) "Be Creative Summer Listener's Club" for
pre-school and Kindergarten and 3) "Express Yourself"
middle school and high school. "Travel with Books-Destination
Unlimited" is the reading program for adults.
B. Foundation Report
The 3rd annual Author's Luncheon held on May 9th and chaired
by Kris Cannon and Susan May netted $20,000 making it the
most profitable Author Luncheon since its inception in 2007.
VII. Unfinished Business
A. Informational Fact Sheet
The informational fact sheet is ready to be distributed to Library
users. The fact sheet provides annual statistical data on usage of
Library materials, registered borrowers, Library visits and
children and adult programs. Centennial Highlights are featured,
as well as volunteer opportunities for patrons. The Trustees
suggested that the fact sheet be placed on the Library website.
B. Budget Discussion
The City Librarian advised the Trustees that the Library will
submit its balanced budget for the year 2009-2010, as well
as return a portion of the Library's 2009 budget to the City.
C. Close Extra Days Around the Library Scheduled Holidays
The Trustees unanimously agreed, subject to revisions if
necessary, to accept the revised holiday schedule which will allow
the Library to close an additional 8 extra days before and after
regular scheduled holidays. M/S/C (Toft/Griffith)
VIII. New Business
A. Nomination of Officers-Term July 1, 2009-June 30, 2010
The Trustees nominated Katie McCormack to serve as President of
the Library Trustees and Pat Toft to serve as Secretary.
B. Easton Branch Reconstruction Budget Detail
The City Librarian provided the Trustees with the historical
budget detail for the Easton reconstruction project as an
informational item. The City Manger had requested this
information for his review.

�- IX. Announcements
The City Librarian, Alfred Escoffier, thanked Nancy Brock for serving as
a member of the Library Board of Trustees since June of 2005. Trustee
Brock will be moving to Southern California.
X. Adjournment
The meeting was adjourned at 6:25pm. M/S/C (Toft/Griffith)
The next meeting of the Library Trustees will be held on July 21, 2009
in the Library Conference Room.
