HomeMy WebLinkAboutReso - CC - 035-2003RESOLUTION 35-2003 RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BURLINGAME DECLARING THE CITY GOVERNMENT'S EXPRESSION OF HOPE IN THE SAFE RETURN OF THE MEN AND WOMEN OF THE UNITED STATES SERVING IN THE MIDDLE EAST AND AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR TO PROCLAIM A WEEK IN LATE APRIL OR EARLY MAY AS YELLOW RIBBON WEEK IN THE CITY OF BURLINGAME RESOLVED, by the City Council of the City of Burlingame: WHEREAS, the sons and daughters, brothers and sisters, fathers and mothers of thousands of American families have been called by their country to serve in the most hazardous of conditions in the Middle East; and WHEREAS, those serving have been called away from their families and many have been called away from other jobs to serve; and WHEREAS, some of those serving come from families and homes in Burlingame; and WHEREAS, there has been an outpouring of support from the community to demonstrate community appreciation through the placement of yellow ribbons throughout the community; and WHEREAS, it is the heartfelt wish of the City that all of those serving come home safely but to also express the City's deep sympathy for those who lose loved ones and to convey our compassion for those who suffer wounds in that service, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that: 1. The City Council hereby expresses the City's gratitude for the sacrifices that those who serve are making for their country and their community. 2. As part of that expression, the City Council hereby adopts the community's initiative. 3. The Mayor is hereby authorized to proclaim a week in late April or early May as Yellow Ribbon Week in the City of Burlingame in which the City will place yellow ribbons on City property and certain City streets to affirm the community's hopes for the well-being of all who serve. I, ANN T. MUSSO, City Clerk of the City of Burlingame, do hereby certify that the foregoing resolution was introduced at a regular meeting of the City Council held on the 7th day of April 2003, and was adopted thereafter by the following vote: AYES: COUNCILMEMBERS: BAYLOCK, COFFEY, GALLIGAN, JANNEY, O'MAHONY NOES: COUNCILMEMBERS: NONE ABSENT: COUNCILMEMBERS: NONE al41-1.
